The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) has launched a Call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) under the project ‘Catalyzing Women’s Entrepreneurship’ (CWE), funded by the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada, and implemented by ESCAP.
Through this call for Expressions of Interest (EOI), ESCAP intends to partner with national/regional civil society organizations, community-based organizations and private not for profit, to reduce the burden and pressure stemming from over-indebtedness on Cambodian women entrepreneurs, and where applicable, their families.
ESCAP’s grant can be used to support the funds operational development/expansion costs, legal fees, research, identification of interventions to support debt reduction, capacity building, monitoring of impact, and other related expenses as per the nature of the submission.
The objective is to partner and provide grant funding in Cambodia, one of the Catalysing Women’s Entrepreneurship (CWE) programme’s focus countries, in the following theme:
- Reducing the burden and negative repercussions of over-indebtedness of women entrepreneurs and their families.
- This call for Expressions of Interest asks for proposals from organisations helping to relieve the burden and reduce the repercussions of over-indebtedness for women entrepreneurs and their families in Cambodia. Repossession of land, and coping mechanisms such as reduction in food intake, child labour and homelessness are among the reported debt related negative spill-over effects. Organisations working with women entrepreneurs to support their livelihoods in light of their debt are invited to apply.
Scope of the Work
- This Request for Expressions of Interest (EOI) is designed to assist organizations supporting over-indebted women and their families (where applicable) from the repercussions of growing debt and loss of assets in Cambodia. For example, organizations working on debt restructuring, mechanisms to prevent and reverse land repossession and supporting households to prevent debt related spill-over effects from impacting children and families are welcome to apply.
- As part of the agreement, the applicants might undertake a range of activities including but not limited to these:
- Working with the public sector to introduce a debt restructuring mechanism
- Supporting women entrepreneurs and their family’s burden to reduce the negative repercussions from over-indebtedness
- Developing innovative solutions to reduce and reverse land repossession
- Development of community-based solutions for women
- Capacity building for individual rural women and rural collective structures (women’s groups, organizations, networks, etc.)
Funding Information
- Applicants may request up to US$30,000 per proposal.
Target Country: Cambodia.
Target end customers: The project activities should focus on reducing the burden and repercussions of over-indebtedness and increasing the economic empowerment of women entrepreneurs in Cambodia.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applications are open to all organizations which hold a not-for-profit status in Cambodia. A proof of the organization’s not-for-profit status will be required as part of the application process.
- Minimum qualification criteria
- Applications are open to all organizations which hold a not-for-profit status provided that the applicant demonstrate prior experience and capability of proposed staff members of the team.
- Not-for-profit lead organizations may partner with private sector institution(s) to implement activities if appropriate. A proof of the lead organization’s not-for-profit status will be required as part of the application process.
- Have proven understanding of the Cambodian context and can legally operate in Cambodia.
