European Commission is calling for proposals for Technological Solutions for Tracking Raw Material Flows in Complex Supply Chains.

Scope

• There is a need to improve supply chain data transparency and traceability, enabling consumers and downstream producers to have information about the origins of metals in finished products. In order to achieve the expected outcomes, it is advised to involve industrial users from the downstream side. Due diligence has numerous research gaps in this area which need to be addressed in order to limit complexity and enable a level playing field for responsible sourcing of minerals.
• This action should close those gaps by the setting up of technological solutions for tracking raw material flows (material passports), building upon comparable criteria, reporting and audit approaches. Examples would include transparency in payments and traceability from beginning to end of the supply chain, through a chain of custody certi?cation, and the use of block chain technology in an e?ort to improve supply chain transparency and traceability.
• The action should build on the experience of existing EU projects on international responsible sourcing and contribute to strengthening responsible sourcing agenda.

Funding Information

The check will normally be done for the coordinator if the requested grant amount is equal to or greater than EUR 500 000, except for:

• public bodies (entities established as a public body under national law, including local, regional or national authorities) or international organisations; and
• cases where the individual requested grant amount is not more than EUR 60 000 (lowvalue grant).

Expected Outcomes

• Projects outcomes will enable achieving the expected impacts of the destination by increasing access to primary raw and secondary raw materials, in particular critical raw materials for EU industrial value chains and strategic sectors.
• Projects are expected to contribute to the following outcomes:
  • Improve supply chain data transparency and traceability;
  • Set up technological solutions for tracking raw material flows (material passports);
  • Identify and address gaps in due diligence;
  • Develop comparable criteria, reporting and audit approaches;
  • Sustainable sourcing of raw materials;
  • Contribute to the implementation of the following actions of the EU Action Plan on Critical Raw Materials: Action 4 – Map the potential supply of secondary critical raw materials from EU stocks and wastes and identify viable recovery projects.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for funding, applicants must be established in one of the eligible countries, i.e.:

• the Member States of the European Union, including their outermost regions;
• the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs) linked to the Member States;
• eligible non-EU countries:
  • countries associated to Horizon Europe
  • low- and middle-income countries
