ARTICLE 19 is currently implementing Voices for Inclusion, a multi-year project funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs to combat intolerance, stigmatisation, discrimination and incitement to violence in Malaysia.
As part of the Voices for Inclusion project, ARTICLE 19 will provide small grants to allow journalists to produce media outputs that promote tolerance and inclusivity in Malaysia. Over the course of the project, ARTICLE 19 will provide EUR 16,000 in grants to media houses and individual journalists, resulting in the publication of at least 20 stories.
Objectives
ARTICLE 19 seeks applications for media projects that promote tolerance and inclusivity in Malaysia. Topics covered may include:
- Contemporary threats to freedom of religion or belief.
- Systematic discrimination against minority groups.
- Collaboration or cooperation between ethnic or religious groups.
- Positive portrayals of marginalized minority groups.
Funding Information
- ARTICLE 19 seeks applications for media projects with budgets up to RMx 22,000. Applications should clearly describe the number and format of media outputs that will be produced using funds from the grant. ARTICLE 19 welcomes applications for as few as one media output and as many as eight. All outputs must be published no later than 15 May 2021.
- NOTE: ARTICLE 19 is likely to announce a second round of funding in July 2021.
Eligibility Criteria
- Grants may support the production of articles, radio stories, short films, photo essays or other media outputs, including those targeting audiences on social media. Both media houses and individual journalists are welcome to apply for media grants.
- Outputs should target local audiences in Malaysia. Therefore, ARTICLE 19 seeks applications for projects that will result in outputs in languages spoken in Malaysia.
