The SaskCulture is currently inviting applications for the Creative Kids Northern Cultural Fund (CKNCF) to provide funding for cultural, artistic or creative inter-active activities for children and youth ages 4 to 19 in northern Saskatchewan (within the Northern Sport, Culture and Recreation District boundaries).
SaskCulture Inc. and Creative Kids are working in partnership with the Northern Sport, Culture and Recreation District to assist in the promotion, support and delivery of the Creative Kids Northern Cultural Fund.
Objectives
The Creative Kids Northern Cultural Fund aims to fund programs that support and strengthen the mission, vision and goals of the Creative Kids Program which include:
- connecting children and youth to unique, life-changing artistic and cultural experiences in their communities;
- providing all children and youth with the opportunity to participate in creative activities regardless of economic barriers they may face;
- providing financial support so all kids have an opportunity to participate in creative activities like drama, art, dance, culture, and music; and
- supporting cultural programming, which is critical to a healthy, vibrant community.
Priorities
Priority will be given to:
- The equitable distribution funds across the northern District.
- Projects and organizations not already funded significantly by other Lottery-supported grant programs;
- Projects with a focus on implementing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action or other reconciliation efforts
Funding Information
The Creative Kids Northern Cultural Fund may be used to support youth-focused cultural programs up to $5,000.
Eligible Activities
- Arts / Creative Activities – drawing, sculpture, photography, filmmaking, pottery, creative writing, painting, board game design, video game creation, fashion design, music recording / production, printmaking, etc.
- Culture – heritage activities, Indigenous traditional arts, language lessons (except French or English), genealogy, archaeology, regalia making, land-based traditional education, etc.
- Dance – hip hop, modern, jigging, tap, salsa, jazz, ballet, powwow, hoop, etc.
- Drama / Theatre – acting, theatre workshops, improv, playwriting, etc.
- Music – piano, drums, choir (except school choirs), guitar, singing, band instruments, bass, banjo, etc.
- Camps – culture camps, band camp, bluegrass camp, drama / theatre camps, circus camps, art camps, museum camps, girls rock camp, etc. (Camp must provide children with quality art, music, drama, dance, heritage or cultural activities. Leadership camps, 4-H, Boy / Girl Scouts and bible camps are not eligible).
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for funding applicants must have no outstanding grant follow-up reports due to SaskCulture. Eligible organizations include:
- Registered non-profit organization in Saskatchewan, which includes Métis Locals/Regions. The applicant must be in existence as a registered non-profit for at least one full fiscal year; and have a primarily cultural mandate in Arts, Heritage, Multiculturalism or Cultural Industries as defined by SaskCulture’s Cultural Policy, or otherwise demonstrate significant engagement in cultural activity;
- First Nations, Tribal Councils or Municipalities, located within the Northern Sport, Culture and Recreation District, and be in good standing with the Saskatchewan Lotteries Community Grant Program;
- Schools located within the Northern Sport, Culture and Recreation District.
