The Carclew is inviting applications for the Project Grants Program to support creative outcomes eg. creation of original new work, activities that enable children and/or young people to participate in art making.
Funding Information
- Individuals can apply for up to $10,000.
- Organisations can apply for up to $20,000.
Project Grant for Individuals
Purpose
Project Grants for Individuals support artistic projects in any art form with a creative outcome. Grants of up to $10,000 are offered twice per year for activity in the following six months. Project Grants for Individuals encourage, develop and promote the artistic practice of people aged 26 and under and support:
- Development and/or presentation of new work
- Development and/or presentation of existing work
- Small-scale projects which enable participation in the arts for children and young people
- Professional development, as long as it’s in conjunction with your project. You can allocate up to $3,000 for career building activity eg. participation in workshops, mentorships, internships, residencies etc
Project Grants for Individuals support:
- Exploration of new art form practice and technologies
- Creative development and/or presentation of original new work
- Creative development and/or presentation of existing work
- Access to cultural heritage
- Professional development, as long as it’s in conjunction with your project. You can allocate up to $3,000 for career building activity eg. participation in workshops, mentorships, internships, residencies etc.
- Purchase of small items of equipment which are essential to the proposed project and not available for hire at a lower cost (it is essential to discuss this in a funding consultation prior to submitting your application)
Eligibility
- Applicants must be 26 years of age or under at the application closing date
- Artists may apply for project support as an unincorporated group, however 60% of the group must be aged 26 years and under at the time of application
- This program is not open to legally constituted organisations (see Project Grants for Organisations).
- Applicants must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia, and be a current resident of South Australia
- Applicants cannot have repayments due on a QuickstART Microloan
- Failure to use the correct application format or complete any aspect of the application may make it ineligible
- Individuals aged 26 years and under who have received project funding through Arts South
- Australia are not eligible to apply to this program
- If you have previously received Carclew funding, you must have submitted a satisfactory acquittal report before a further funding application can be assessed.
General Information
- This program is offered twice per year for activity in the following six months
- Grants of up to $10,000 are offered in each round
- Applicants seeking support for projects may apply for up to $10,000. Projects may incorporate skills development can allocate up to $3,000 in their overall budget for career building activity

- Activity may be in any art form or may be multi-art form
- Applicants are expected to consult with the Carclew team to establish their eligibility and discuss their proposal prior to submission
- No consultations can take place in the week prior to the application closing date
- Applications must be submitted using Carclew’s online application system
- Applications are assessed by an independent, multi-art form peer committee
- Funding recommendations are endorsed by the Carclew Board.
Project Grant for Organisations
Purpose
- Project Grants for Organisations support artistic projects in any art form developed and presented for, by and with children and young people aged 26 years and under.
- Offered once per year, the Project Grants for Organisations program will provide grants of up to $20 000 for activity in the following calendar year. Projects must meet one or more of the following:
- Children and/or young people (26 years and under) are the target audience or primary project beneficiaries
- The project supports the creative skills development of children and/or young people
- The project provides a professional entry point for early career artists aged 26 years and under through employment and/or structured mentoring
- Equity and access are primary considerations in project concept development, planning and delivery
Project Grants for Organisations support:
- Development and/or presentation of performances for young audiences and their families
- Development and/or presentation of performances by and with children and young people
- Creative skills development workshops or masterclass programs for children and young people, particularly those with presentation outcomes which celebrate the achievements of participants
- Intergenerational projects
- Projects which promote the exploration of culture for, by and with children and young people
- Arts projects which employ early career artists aged 26 years and under
- Arts projects which incorporate structured skills development and mentoring for early career artists aged 26 years and under
- Arts projects which actively address barriers to participation brought about by social and geographic disadvantage.
Eligibility
This program is open to organisations that:
- Are not for profit incorporated bodies
- Are based in South Australia
- Are not in receipt of annual program funding from Carclew or operational funding from Arts South Australia
- Have acquitted any previous grants from Carclew and/or Arts South Australia
- Can demonstrate a strong track record of delivering high quality arts programs for children and/or young people
- Can demonstrate that appropriate child safe policies and procedures are in place to support project
delivery.

- Activity may incorporate any art form or mix of art forms
- Applicants are expected to consult with Carclew staff to establish their eligibility and discuss their proposal prior to submission
- No consultations can take place in the week prior to the application closing date
- Applications must be submitted using Carclew’s online application system
- Incomplete applications will not be accepted
- Applications are assessed by an independent, multi-art form peer committee. The committee reserves the right to recommend that no project in a particular round be funded
- Funding recommendations are endorsed by the Carclew Board
