In light of the pandemic, the Child Care Services Association (CCSA) has created the CCSA COVID-19 Relief Fund for child care programs phase – II.
The CCSA COVID-19 Relief Fund is funded by the generosity of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation, the PNC Foundation, ChildTrust Foundation and Truist Charitable Fund as well as the many CCSA donors who contributed to the relief fund.
CCSA will provide funding to a small number of licensed child care centers and family child care homes to support child care providers who have an immediate need for funding for additional staffing, supplies and/or enhanced services supports (financial consultation, training, education, resources) related to COVID-19. Programs who applied in Phase I may apply for Phase II.
Funding Information
- Grants will range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the magnitude of the expressed needs and the number of qualified applicants awarded.
Funds may be used for projects including, but not limited to, the following:
- Supply needs of providers, which could include Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other program needs;
- Resources to provide paid sick days and/or bonus payments to teachers and support staff;
- Resources impacting infant and toddler spaces;
- Resources to purchase equipment and other items needed to ensure social distancing;
- Efforts to support social/emotional needs of children and caregivers; and/or
- Other areas of support for your program, teachers, children and families.
In addition, CCSA is interested in considering proposals that include innovative types of assistance not described above, but designed to support the immediate needs and sustainability of your program. At the conclusion of the grant period, the participating program will:
- Provide stories and photos to show the impact of the grant, which may include blog posts, stories and lessons learned;
- Participate in data collection and follow-up surveys.
Project Timeline
It is anticipated that work on the grant project will begin in September 2020. All funds with this agreement must be spent no later than November 15, 2020.
Selection Criteria
Applicants will be selected by the Child Care Services Association. Selection criteria may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Your geographical area, the impact of COVID-19 in your service area and the impact to your program, children and families.
- Your plans, including:
- Description of ability to meet the project timeline;
- An innovative approach for greatest impact;
- Prioritization of greatest/most immediate need;
- The percent of low-income or subsidy children in your program;
- How your plans effectively address the populations being disproportionately impacted.
- Sound and reasonable budgeting
Eligibility Criteria
- Applications will be accepted from 3-, 4- and 5-star programs who accept children on subsidy as well as private pay children. It is anticipated that priority will be given to applicants who propose strategies to meet the needs of populations disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, including, but not limited to, people of color, Native American tribes and Latino communities and who serve low-income children.
