The Chief Minister’s Charitable Fund is seeking applications for its Grant Program that aimed at addressing the needs of marginalized and disadvantaged people in Canberra and the nearby region by supporting and working with charitable organizations and social enterprises.
It was created in June 2018 with the objective to assist in meeting the social, economic, cultural, educational, environmental and other charitable needs of the community in the Australian Capital Territory (and the immediately surrounding region) for the public benefit.
The ACT Government invested $5 million as seed funding to kick-start a long term commitment to their local charities and community sector to support their incredible work and also explore innovative solutions to meeting community needs.
The Chief Minister’s Charitable Fund Grant Program is aimed at addressing the needs of vulnerable people by supporting and working with charitable organisations and social enterprises. The fund is managed by Hands Across Canberra.
Priorities
- In 2021 they will seek to support programs targeting at-risk children and youth, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, transgender and intersex people, domestic violence victims and perpetrators, older women and youth at risk of homelessness, marginalised and disadvantaged groups, people with disability, refugees and migrants and precariously employed people. They are in particular seeking activities that:
- are collaborative (ie. collaboration between service providers)
- have included service participants in the design of the project
- deal with the root cause of an issue, rather than responding to the symptom
- improve belonging in their community
- improve Mental Health in their community
- support people experiencing or at risk of homelessness and especially projects addressing pathways that lead to youth homelessness.
- Organisations and social enterprises working in the ACT and their nearby region area are encouraged to apply. They also encourage organisations to include impact measurement and evaluation activities in their applications.
- Priorities are revised annually to ensure meeting Canberra’s most acute needs and targeting those most vulnerable. Alignment to the priorities is an important pre-requisite for selection, however it will not preclude organisations submitting applications for other important initiatives where need is evidenced.
Funding Information
- approximately $400,000
- funds expended within the FY 2021/22
- Capped at $50,000 with a majority expected in the $10,000-$20,000 range
- Multi-year community grants may be considered based on an expressions of interest
Activities
- They are listening to community organisations in their region and their conversations with them are integral to help them identify how they can best support them and the great work they do.
- Projects may include but are not limited to conferences, evaluation, events, equipment, infrastructure, reports, short-term operating support for specific activities, innovation, capacity building, campaigns, renovations etc.
- Alignment to the priorities is an important pre-requisite for selection, however it will not preclude organisations submitting applications for other important initiatives where need is evidenced.
Eligibility Criteria
- Community organisations and social enterprises working with socially disadvantaged and vulnerable groups
- Location: projects delivered in Canberra and the nearby region
- Exclusions: funding will not be considered for overseas study, or travel, lobbying, political activities, completed projects for expenses that have already been acquitted or salaries for regular staff. To avoid duplication, activities that receive funds from the ACT government’s stimulus packages will not be eligible.
- If you have an outstanding 2019 or 2020 grant with them for whom they have not received an acquittal please contact them before applying.
