The Staffordshire County Council is seeking applications for its Community Climate Change Action Fund that has been established to help local communities build resilience and reduce Staffordshire’s contributions to climate change.
In July 2019 Staffordshire County Council declared a climate change emergency to demonstrate a commitment to taking action to reduce climate change impacts. The Council is putting in place measures to reduce contributions, adapt and build resilience to the impact of climate change.
Funding Information
- Each County Councillor has up to £1,000 to allocate through the Community Climate Action Fund.
- Projects can apply for funding up to a maximum of £1,000, there is no minimum.
Funding Categories
Funding must deliver against at least one of the following three categories:
- Category 1 – Reducing the carbon impact
- Energy efficiency – reducing our demand for energy, for example:
- Use of more efficient appliances, lighting and heating.
- Improving the thermal efficiency of buildings by reducing heat loss, for example improving insulation and reducing draughts.
- Reducing the impact of fossil-fuelled vehicles
- Low carbon transport.
- Encouraging more sustainable travel.
- Waste reduction and reuse
- Introducing measures to keep items in use for longer and minimize waste creation (recycling initiatives are not eligible unless related to food waste recycling and local composting initiatives).
- Energy efficiency – reducing our demand for energy, for example:
- Category 2 – Improving air quality
- Improve air quality
- For example, encouraging alternatives to car use for school drop-offs (such as walking and cycling) and reduced idling outside school buildings.
- Reduce harmful emissions
- Projects which reduce harmful emissions, particularly in areas which suffer from poor air quality.
- Improve air quality
- Category 3 – Adaptation to climate change
- Building resilience to climate change impacts
- Community resilience to extreme local weather events, e.g. heat waves, drought and heavy rain events.
- Enhancing local green spaces
- Greening urban spaces and the local environment for example through tree planting.
- Building resilience to climate change impacts
Eligibility Criteria
- The funding is open to properly constituted, not-for-profit organisations, including charities, societies, voluntary and community groups, parish councils and schools.
- The county council is not able to fund individuals.
How to Apply
- To apply for funding, you must first have already spoken with the County Councillor you are seeking funding from. You will not be able to proceed with a funding application otherwise. Please see the list of County Councillors on their website for contact details, where you can also search by postcode if you are uncertain who your councillor is.
- The funding application can be put through their online form.
- If you require a printed copy of the application form and guidance this can be requested from them.
- Please note: Due to staff mainly working from home whilst Covid-19 restrictions are in place, there may be a slight delay in receiving paper copies.
- Please note: by submitting a funding application you will be confirming that you accept the council’s funding conditions as set out in this guide at the time of application. Organisations not accepting these at the time of applying will not be eligible for funding support.
