The Western Power Distribution (WPD) has launched Community Matters Fund to provide help and support to grassroots community groups tackling holiday hunger when schools are closed and children often go hungry.
The WPD have teamed up with Local giving to deliver their Community Matters Fund. The fund will provide support to charitable organisations in their response to holiday hunger.
As part of their long-term commitment to their communities, they have promised to deliver a shareholder-funded, annual £1m support fund for local community initiatives and good causes over the next five years. The Community Matters funding programme builds on the £1 million Covid response fund they delivered last year to support their vulnerable customers through the pandemic.
Themes
- Provide food to families affected by holiday hunger e.g. food parcels and serving meals
- Deliver services to assist families affected by holiday hunger e.g. food pantries
- Delivering educational activities focused on skills development and ongoing support to reduce food poverty (e.g. cookery classes, nutrition advice, budgeting support, benefits and debt advice)
- Innovative approaches to holiday hunger and food poverty.
Funding Information
The fund will provide £500,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applications are encouraged from organisations delivering projects that offer both short-term interventions to stop holiday hunger and longer term support to help reduce food poverty.
- Western Power Distribution distributes electricity to 8 million customers across an area covering the Midlands, South Wales and South West.
- Funding is available for non-profit and statutory organisations based in these locations.
- There is no limit to the annual income an organisation must have to be eligible to receive funding
