The Comox Valley Community Foundation (CVCF) is seeking applications for its 2021 COVID-19 Emergency Response Grants that will support food security and homelessness initiatives, and children and youth.
The focus for the 2021 COVID-19 Emergency Response Grants will remain on pandemic response and supporting those most impacted by the ongoing pandemic. While still focused on supporting vulnerable populations, 2021 grants are intended to also contribute to the longer-term sustainability of the organization or program, as well as address root causes.
Granting Principles
All grants are made only to support the purposes as stated in the Foundation’s Constitution and in accordance with the policies from time to time approved by the Board of Directors. The Foundation bases its granting on the following principles:
- Demonstrated need, the likelihood of effectiveness, and the desire to serve others.
- Partnerships and collaborations to make the best use of limited resources.
- Projects that build on the strengths of the community to respond to the emergent issues and priorities facing our community.
- Demonstrated inclusiveness and respect for cultural diversity.
Ineligible Activities
The following activities/costs are not eligible for COVID-19 Emergency Response Grants:
- Retroactive funding or any project expenses to be incurred prior to March 1, 2021.
- Academic research.
- Tours or travel outside the community (unless incidental to the project).
- Scholarships or bursaries.
- Activities of religious organizations that serve primarily their membership and/or their direct religious purposes.
- Political activities as defined by Income Tax Act.
- The establishment of or addition to endowment funds.
- Building and/or land acquisition campaigns.
- Annual fundraising campaigns, form letter requests or telephone campaigns.
- Capital Deficits.
- For-profit organizations.
Eligibility Criteria
The minimum eligibility requirements for all CVCF grants include:
- Registered charities and other qualified donees as defined in the Income Tax Act.
- Projects and/or activities must occur in the Comox Valley (School District 71) or be of direct benefit to the residents of the Comox Valley.
- All applicants also must be in good standing with the Foundation.
Grant Criteria
Applications need to pertain to at least one of the following criteria:
- Programs and activities intended to enhance “Child Welfare” interpreted in its broadest sense, which could reasonably include support to families with children who are experiencing unemployment, difficulty in accessing food, shelter, and/or care due to workplace/school closures, etc.
- Programs and activities offered by religious organizations and or churches intended to serve the broader community, especially our most vulnerable citizens.
- Food security initiatives.
- Homelessness initiatives.
- General operating costs to deliver the above-referenced programs and activities.
