The Caribbean Vulnerable Communities Coalition (CVC) is welcoming for its Small Grants to Support Temporary Emergency Services that is designed to help communities experiencing heightened vulnerability during the COVID-19 crisis.
These awards are intended to support CBOs working to operate temporary emergency services and support for individuals experiencing stigma and discrimination or gender-based violence during the Covid-19 pandemic.
CVC has received reports from across the region of increased Gender-based Violence (GBV) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The increases in violence can be attributed to a variety of factors such as reduced access to necessities, financial stress, the potential breakdown of societal infrastructures, quarantines and social isolation, or the inability to escape abusive partners.
Gender-based violence has serious negative consequences for people affected by the violence, their families and communities, including immediate impacts on safety, mental, physical, and sexual health and well-being which if left unaddressed have long term implications.
Funding Information
- Small grants of up to five thousand United States dollars (US$5,000) are available for supporting emergency services for a period ranging between three to six months, with possibility of extension for an additional three to six months subject to project performance/impact and the continued availability of funding.
Eligibility Criteria
- Registered community-based organizations from one of the following countries are eligible:
- The organization must have a track record working with one or more of the following groups/communities:
- Informal groups with established track record working with the aforementioned vulnerable groups may also apply for funding, but will need to provide a fiscal sponsor to manage the financial and administrative matters of the grant.
- This funding can be used to fund diverse activities and initiatives including but not limited to:
- Measures to combat stigma and discrimination (S&D), and xenophobia against particular sub-groups (e.g. advocacy and public awareness campaigns);
- Measures to prevent violence against women, sex workers and LGBTQI groups, and marginalized youth. (e.g. Screening of GBV by outreach workers and support staff);
- Support packages to meet the emergency needs of individuals and family who have been affected by S&D or GBV (e.g. food or very temporary housing);
- Support ongoing needs, ensuring their health and mental well-being is maintained. (e.g. socially distanced outdoor group hikes, mental support groups, ensure that PLWHIV can collect their ARVs and attend medical appointments etc);
- Support to reduce the impact during any isolation period that may arise as a result of the threat of COVID-19 (e.g. home drop-off of staples and other shopping items; services to ease childcare and educational support for children for single mothers);
- Help to make sure people remain safely connected with the outside world during this time. (e.g. whatsapp group check-ins, ensure people have minimal internet connectivity, organize small socially distanced gatherings to help people stay connected).
