The UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) is currently accepting applications for its Early Market Engagement Event for Cities and Infrastructure for Growth (CIG) in Uganda.

Background Developing countries need to transform their economies if they are to eradicate poverty and meet the sustainable development goals. Reliable access to power, productive cities and infrastructure are vital.

The CIG programme’s objectives are to deliver outcomes in DFID focus countries in terms of:

It is proposed that CIG will comprise the following components:

Funds Available

The UK will provide £165m over 5 years for the CIG umbrella programme to support inclusive economic growth and job creation in DFID focus countries in Sub-Saharan Africa & South Asia.

Eligible Countries

United Kingdom

Sub-Saharan Africa: Angola, Burundi, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Gabon, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Sao Tome and Principe, the Seychelles, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan or Zimbabwe.

South Asia: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
