The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Central for Disease Control (CDC) is currently seeking applications for Expanding Efforts and Strategies to Protect and Improve Public Health in Kenya.
This NOFO builds on activities from previous NOFO GH15-1632 which include strengthening surveillance, laboratory, workforce development, and emergency preparedness where significant gaps exist at all levels, particularly in high-risk regions with limited readiness capacity and insecurity. It seeks to continue assisting country’s compliance with IHR (2005) through GHS targets.
Expected Outcomes
This NOFO’s main outcomes are to:
- Improve prevention of avoidable epidemics including naturally occurring outbreaks and intentional or accidental releases of dangerous pathogens
- Improve ability to rapidly detect threats early, including detecting, characterizing, and reporting emerging biological threats
- Respond rapidly and effectively to public health threats of international concern
- Strengthen implementation science programs and platforms to improve health outcomes
Components
- Component 1: Core Global Health Security Priorities.
- Component 2: Rapid Response to Small Scale Infectious Disease Outbreaks or other Public Health Emergencies.
- Component 3: Rapid Response to Large-Scale Infectious Disease Outbreaks or other Public Health Emergencies.
Target Populations
- The target populations for this NOFO include, but are not limited to, individuals in Kenya, infected and affected by infectious diseases, are at risk for becoming infected by an infectious disease. The target population for this NOFO may also include at-risk population for noncommunicable diseases and/or other public health emergencies.
- The work under this NOFO will also target increased capacity at the national and sub-national level to implement and achieve outbreak/epidemic/pandemic control in line with USG and CDC strategy. The number and names of the sub-national districts at the time of the award may be changed depending on epidemiologic profile and disease burden.
