The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking applications for its “Re-Competition of Global Network for Womens and Childrens Health Research” to stimulate and expand research which addresses gaps in the scientific knowledge around disease processes and treatment strategies that have implications for the health outcomes of mothers and their infants globally.
The primary goal of this research program will be to conduct cost-effective, high impact, multi–center, large scale clinical studies targeted at understanding the best method to reduce maternal and infant mortality and morbidity among global populations with the highest burden of death and disability.
Other critical goals are to:
- develop sustainable research capacity and public health intervention capabilities in developing countries,
- strengthen international collaborative research efforts that focus on the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in pregnancy and early childhood,
- identify and address gaps in maternal and child research.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible Applicants:
- Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
- Small businesses
- Independent school districts
- City or township governments
- For profit organizations other than Small businesses
- Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized)
- Nonprofits that do not have a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
- County governments
- Public and State controlled institutions of higher education
- Special district governments
- Private institutions of higher education
- Native American tribal organizations (other than Federally recognized tribal governments)
- State governments
- Public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities
- Other Eligible Applicants include the following:
- Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions; Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISISs); Eligible Agencies of the Federal Government; Faith-based or Community-based Organizations; Hispanic-serving Institutions; Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs); Indian/Native American Tribal Governments (Other than Federally Recognized); Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Organizations); Regional Organizations; Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs) ; U.S. Territory or Possession; Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Institutions) are not eligible to apply. Non-domestic (non-U.S.) components of U.S. Organizations are eligible to apply. Foreign components, as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement, are allowed.
