The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) is inviting proposals from leading researchers for its “Brexit Priority Grants” as part of the Council’s UK in a Changing Europe initiative.
These are to support a range of activities including research synthesis, user engagement and new short-term research activity related to the process of the UK leaving the European Union.
Priority Areas
Proposals must be policy-focussed and centre on the implementation of Brexit and its consequences under one or more of the following priority areas:
- Changing political contexts in Europe and the positions of other member states
- Citizens’ expectations on Brexit outcomes
- Brexit and UK party politics
- Legal issues and the transfer of competencies (e.g. environmental/climate, energy, agricultural and fisheries policies etc)
- Implications for migration
- Economic impact of Brexit and future trade arrangements
Funding Information
The grants will be between £100,000 and £300,000 (100 per cent fEC, with the ESRC contributing 80 per cent fEC) and for a duration of up to 18 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- All UK Higher Education Institutions that receive grant funding from one of the UK higher education funding bodies1 are eligible to receive funds for research, postgraduate training and associated activities.
- Other Independent Research Organisations (IROs) may also be eligible for RCUK funding (resource and capital) if they possess an existing in-house capacity to carry out research that materially extends and enhances the UK research base and are able to demonstrate an independent capability to undertake and lead research programmes.
- The organisation must possess an existing in-house capacity to carry out research, in the field or discipline in which it wishes to be funded, that materially extends and enhances the UK research base; and be able to demonstrate an independent capability to undertake and lead research programmes.
