The European Union (EU) is currently accepting proposals from eligible organisations for “Advocacy for nutrition security policies, programmes and interventions” under the ‘AFIKEPO’ Nutrition Programme in Malawi.
The objective of this call for proposals is to contribute to enhanced nutrition security of all Malawians particularly for achieving optimal nutrition for women of child bearing age, adolescent girls, infants and young children through advocacy, awareness raising and capacity building.
Priority Areas
- Advocacy to policy makers and key stakeholders for relevant regulatory frameworks on food and Nutrition security (FNS) and Right to FNS to generate demand for better integration of nutrition into national and district development policies, priorities and mobilization of additional resources for nutrition interventions and track these resources and results achieved.
- Advocacy and publicity of Nutrition evidence based information generated on nutrition- interventions to inform national policies and strategic priorities for the decision makers.
- Capacity building of district assemblies (Members of Parliament, Counselors and Local Authorities) to understand the importance of good nutrition and their roles and responsibilities in demanding for the integration of nutrition objectives in the district development plans, budgets, results monitoring frameworks and related interventions; and increased accountability for nutrition resources and results from the stakeholders
Size of Grants
Any grant requested under this call for proposals must fall between EUR 940,000 and EUR 950,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- In order to be eligible for a grant, the lead applicant must:
- be a legal person and
- be non-profit-making and
- be a specific type of organisation such as: non-governmental organisation, public sector operator, local authority, international (inter-governmental) organisation as defined the Rules of application of the EU Financial Regulation and
- be established in a Member State of the European Union or ACP or OECD/DAC members or the European Economic Area (EEA). This obligation does not apply to international organisations and
- be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co-applicant(s) and affiliated entity(ies), not acting as an intermediary and
- have stable and sufficient sources of finance to ensure the continuity of their organisation throughout the project and to play a part in financing it and
- either the applicant, co-applicant or affiliated entity must have a presence in Malawi and
- be currently working and/or has worked during the past 5 years in the related field of actions being proposed and
- have implemented or is implementing a project under at least one contract with the contract amount of at least half the size of the project for which a grant is requested during the past 5 years.
- Potential applicants may not participate in calls for proposals or be awarded grants if they are in any of the situations
- The lead applicant must declare that the lead applicant himself, the co-applicant(s) and affiliated entity(ies) are not in any of these situations.
- The lead applicant may act individually or with co-applicant(s).
How to Apply
- The application procedure consists of two phases:
- Concept notes
- Full applications
- In the first instance, only concept notes must be submitted for evaluation. Thereafter, lead applicants who have been pre-selected will be invited to submit a full application.
