The European Union (EU) is currently accepting proposals from eligible organisations for “Support for judicial reform in Kazakhstan” in order to strengthen the rule of law and the reform of the judiciary in Kazakhstan through supporting the implementation of the national policy of humanization of the justice system.
Priority Issues
- Enhance capacities of CSOs to carry out studies, provide independent reporting, consultation and advice to judicial authorities, and raise public awareness.
- Enhance capacities of CSOs to provide a wide range of services to and represent the legal interests of vulnerable social groups.
- Strengthen coordination and networking among CSOs working in the criminal justice system
Size of Grants
Any grant requested under this call for proposals must fall between EUR 280,000 and EUR 300, 000.
Eligibility Criteria
- Lead applicant: In order to be eligible for a grant, the lead applicant must:
- be a legal person
- be non-profit-making
- be a specific type of organisation such as: non-governmental organisation, public sector operator, local authority, international (inter-governmental) organisation of the EU Financial Regulation
- be established in Kazakhstan or a Member State of the European Union
- be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co-applicant(s) and affiliated entity(ies), not acting as an intermediary
- be established for at least two years at the time of the publication of this Call for Proposals, as documented by the organisation’s registration documents
- Potential applicants may not participate in calls for proposals or be awarded grants if they are in any of the situations
- The lead applicant must act with co-applicant(s) as specified hereafter.
- Co-applicant(s)
- The applicant must act with at least one co-applicant. In the case, that the applicant is not established in Kazakhstan, at least one of the co-applicants must be established in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
- Co-applicants participate in designing and implementing the action, and the costs they incur are eligible in the same way as those incurred by the lead applicant.
- Co-applicants must satisfy the eligibility criteria as applicable to the lead applicant.
How to Apply
- The application procedure consists of two phases:
- Concept notes
- Full applications
- In the first instance, only concept notes must be submitted for evaluation. Thereafter, lead applicants who have been pre-selected will be invited to submit a full application.
