LIFSA is an initiative of the Government of the Principality of Monaco in partnership with the Alliance Française of Johannesburg and with the support of ILLIS Monaco, the Embassy of France in South Africa and the Embassy of Switzerland in South Africa.
The fund works together with its partners and beneficiaries for the benefit of civil society in the townships of Johannesburg targeting children (under six years old), youth and women.
This initiative takes place in a context where poverty and unemployment in South African townships, amplified by the health crisis, has reduced the capacity of local associations to help the most vulnerable populations, especially children and girls. Based on the strength of its experience in financing micro-projects for civil society, the Government of the Principality of Monaco has entrusted the management of the call for proposals to the Alliance Française of Johannesburg.
LIFSA aims to identify and support targeted, small-scale, community-based initiatives for vulnerable children, youth and women in Johannesburg townships.
Funding Information
- The initiatives selected by the selection committee will receive a subsidy of maximum R160.000. Once the project is approved, the funds will be disbursed in two instalments.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible civil society organisations as well as public or private entities with a social impact in the townships, which are duly registered in South Africa are invited to submit projects, in at least one of the following fields:
- Education and vocational training
- Health
- Child protection
- Vocational training
- Entrepreneurship
- Food security
- Culture
- Sport
- Peace, social cohesion
- They are looking for project ideas carried out by young adults working with children under the age of six, youth or women.
- The project can address gender gaps, inclusion of people with disabilities, environmental challenges, entrepreneurship and innovation.
Selection Criteria
- The project must be in line with government and sectoral policies in South Africa
- The project must address relevant concerns faced by the most vulnerable groups (e.g., populations facing poverty, school drop-out, unemployment, disability, conflict situations, violence, etc.)
- The description of the project, its objectives, activities and budget must be outlined clearly.
- The project must ensure that local stakeholders are involved in the implementation of the activities.
- The project’s activities cannot be linked to religious proselytizing or political propaganda.
