The said net income to be used, so far as possible, for the purchase and maintenance of summer camps or training camps in New England for the use of Boy Scouts. These payments shall be made by said Trustees after consultation with the officials of the Boy Scouts of America.”
Bank of America, N.A. serves as trustee, co-trustee or agent to numerous private foundations. Many of these foundations are managed by the Private Bank, Philanthropic Solutions group. In the Massachusetts office, the donors of approximately 25 of these foundations have granted discretion to Bank of America to design and execute charitable grant making programs to support nonprofit organizations serving vital community needs.
Focus Areas
- Education: They fund educational programs for all ages. To that end, they fund academic access, enrichment and remedial programming for children, youth, adults and older adults that focuses on preparing individuals to achieve while in school and beyond.
- Healthcare: They fund programming that improves access to primary care and health education initiatives for traditionally underserved individuals. In addition, they manage several foundations engaged in medical research.
- Human services: They are committed to serving the community by supporting organizations meeting the basic needs of all individuals. Since the human service needs of communities are broad and evolving, they fund a wide array of programming. The efforts are focused on — but not limited to — youth development, violence prevention, workforce development, life skills attainment and food programs.
Guidelines
- The Magee Fund will consider several major capital projects each year specifically benefitting Boy Scouts Councils in Massachusetts. An architect’s rendering and 3 estimates will be requested as part of the application process.
- Such projects will be considered on the basis of demonstrated ability to improve use of the facilities, ability to maintain the facility once completed, comparative need, and collaborative capability with neighboring councils or camps.
- One-time maintenance or replacement projects will be considered, both those of an emergency nature, and those which will increase utilization and/or reduce ongoing maintenance or other operating costs.
- Funding decisions are based on the merits of the projects in the proposal submitted. The level of funding in prior years is not a factor in the decision.
- If more than one project is identified, there should be an indication of priority.
- New requests will not be considered if projects for previous grants are not completed, unless there are extenuating circumstances.
