Go Cycle Glasgow Fund is now open for applications to support community groups across Glasgow to develop accessible and sustainable cycling projects using the power of the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships.
Organisations can apply for between £1,000 and £10,000 to support the development of cycling projects that bring communities together and tackle inequalities by reducing the barriers to participation. The fund is available to groups looking to expand their existing provision to new audiences or to develop new, exciting opportunities to get more people cycling.
Go Cycle Glasgow will provide support to projects from across the city. The fund will be delivered in partnership with Clyde Gateway as well as the Smarter Choices, Smarter Places meaning Glasgow Life has some additional support available for specific projects.
- Clyde Gateway is an urban regeneration company that focuses on improving lives in communities across the east end of the city. With that in mind, Glasgow Life would welcome applications from projects that target individuals and groups in Dalmarnock, Bridgeton, Barrowfield, Oatlands and Toryglen communities.
- The Smarter Choices, Smarter Places programme aims to encourage people to change their everyday travel behaviours so Glasgow Life would love to support some projects which focus on opportunities for active travel through cycling.
Priorities
Priority will be given to projects working with young people, people with disabilities, lowincome families, women and ethnic minority groups.
- Encourage more local people to use cycling for recreation, sport or active travel.
- Provide cycling activities for underrepresented groups in the community.
- Be inclusive and accessible, addressing barriers to participating in cycling.
- Engage participants in cycling now and provide sustainable activities that will be deliverable in the future.
- Share the learning from the project with the cycling community.

What will they fund?

Please see some examples of the items this fund can support:
- Purchase of new bikes
- Safety equipment (helmets, lights, locks etc)
- Training courses
- Storage
- Tools and Mechanic costs
- Community cycling events
- Small improvements to existing facilities capped at 25% of total funding request
- Running costs (e.g. coaching, venue hire) capped at £2,000 for eligible projects. the fund will not solely fund running costs.
- There are some things that go cycle glasgow cannot support, this fund must be used for new projects within existing community organisations and will not provide replacement funding or support for activities that have already taken place.
- There is a limited amount of funding available and there is no guarantee that applications will be successful in securing funding.
Eligibility Criteria
Glasgow Life wants to work with any glasgow based clubs and organisations that understands their local community and wants to develop cycling opportunities to encourage more people to get on a bike. some examples of the organisations they want to work with:
- Voluntary sports clubs.
- Charities.
- Women’s groups.
- Friends of parks.
- Groups supporting low-income.
- Not for profit community groups communities.
- Youth clubs.
- Disability organizations.
- Ethnic minority groups.
Ineligible
Unfortunately, Glasgow Life is unable to accept applications from individuals, sole traders, unconstituted groups, ngbs, organisations established to make profit or organisations based outside the city of glasgow boundary. Glasgow Life would encourage any of these types of organisations to work in partnership with an eligible organisation to access the fund.
