The Industry Academia Collaborative Grant is a part of the Going Global Partnerships programme that has been initiated by the British Council to promote collaboration between industry and academia.
The objective of the grant is to catalyse industry academia partnerships that will allow academia and industry to work in sync, prepare work ready workforce, reduce on the job training cost, and make learners more employable. The grant aims to build stronger, more inclusive, industry connected higher education systems that support global development impacts.
The grant will support in building Industry academia collaboration for a more joined up approach leading to excellence in higher education, work ready workforce and quality research outputs for the benefit of the industry and the academia.
Eligibility Criteria
- The grant is available to all UK and Indian Higher Education Institutions and industry applicants who would like to collaborate on a larger theme in areas like (this is an indicative list and not exhaustive) product / process innovation, course / module development, research, creation of knowledge, develop employable workforce, and an opportunity for learners to work on new technologies and challenging problems.
- Indian Institutions may be one of the following:
- Government or privately funded higher education institute, recognised by state or central governments and its institutions like UGC, AICTE, or any other competent body in India.
- Indian institutes of eminence, Indian institutes of national importance are encouraged to apply.
- UK Institution must be one of the following:
- Higher Education provider with degree awarding powers.
- Not-for-profit research institutions, establishment and organisations.
- Any public or private organisations with a role in the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET)/Further Education (FE) system.
- Industry must be one of the following:
- For-profit/commercial organisations, including micro, small, medium and large enterprises.
Selection Criteria
- The application must be a joint application, with minimum three partnering institutions with representation from both UK and India institutions and the industry partner. The consortium must have at least one lead applicant based at a UK institution, at least one co-applicant based at an Indian institution and at least one industry partner either from India or UK., with clear roles in the consortium.
- Applications must have the support of all participating Indian and UK institutions and the industry partner, confirmed by supporting letters on their letter heads.
- Consortium with a strong plan of systemic impact will be given preference.
- Consortiums must have resources and other funds committed to this collaboration, and any value added to the grant will be considered desirable.
- Preference will be given to consortium sponsored or approved by state governments in India and/or aligned to both countries’ state and national priorities.
- Consortium must demonstrate that they have strength in the thematic area of collaboration through high ranking, industry-academia linkages, research and innovation in the area, and a great student learning experience.
- Grant will be disbursed in two tranches by early December 2022 and March 2023. An Interim report will be needed by 5 March 2023, for releasing the second and final tranche by 31 March 2023. 50% of the proposed activities are expected to be completed by or before submitting the interim report and remaining 50% of the activities are expected to be completed by 31st October 2023 followed by report submission by 30th November 2023.
