The U.S. Embassy Tashkent Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations or individuals to submit applications to conduct innovative and creative programs to promote and improve English language teaching and learning across Uzbekistan.
Grants must support initiatives such as: improving the quality of English language teaching and learning in the country; training new generations of English language teachers and students; teaching practical English for professionals for specific purposes; motivating students to excel at English learning; and establishing English programs that support economic growth and development.

Project Goal: Improve the quality of English language teaching and learning in Uzbekistan to support the Government of Uzbekistan’s English education reform goals.
Funding Information
- Funding Mechanism Type: Cooperative agreement
- Estimated Total Project Funding: $500,000
- Estimated Award Ceiling: $250,000
- Estimated Award Floor: $50,000
- Length of Project Period: 12 months
- Anticipated programs start date: September 1, 2022
- Funding Range: Only well-established institutions with wide-reaching proposals will be considered for the higher end of the award ceiling.
Project Audience(s)
- The Embassy encourages applications from institutions and individuals from the United States and all the regions of Uzbekistan.
- Primary audiences for proposals should be youth, students, teachers and administrators, young professionals, writers and poets, entrepreneurs, tourism workers, media and/or others related to your program theme.
- They are specifically looking to support vulnerable populations, such as economically disadvantaged students and adults, residents of rural communities, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
- Depending on the focus, projects may have secondary audiences or beneficiaries including media, civil society organizations or wider professional audiences, which you may note in the proposal.
Eligibility Criteria
- The following organizations are eligible to apply:
- Must be an accredited school, institute, teacher training center, university, or nonprofit organization completely based in Uzbekistan or the United States.
- Applications from individuals will be accepted from English language professionals if employed full-time at an accredited school or university. English, journalism, and international relations/cooperation departments may apply.
- Activities must contribute toward English teaching or learning, and all projects must be conducted mainly or entirely in English.
- Organizations may subcontract with other entities, but only one, non-profit, non-governmental entity can be the prime recipient of the award. When sub-contracting with other entities, the responsibilities of each entity must be clearly defined in the proposal.
