The Inspiring Scotland is pleased to announce Healthy Islands Fund that aims to support community-led initiatives that promote healthier lifestyles on the islands.
The Healthy Islands Fund (HIF) is a £1.3 million investment from the Scottish Government to further support improvement of outcomes for island communities in Scotland.
Funding will contribute to delivery of Strategic Objective 7 of the National Islands Plan, which aims to improve and promote health, social care and wellbeing for those living in Scottish island communities.
Aims
The three aims of the Fund are:
- To create opportunities for everyone to be active, whoever they are, wherever they live and whatever their background.
- To create and/or support mental health care at a grassroot island level, taking into consideration the uniqueness of their community.
- To use the natural environment to support islanders to make daily choices to support their wellbeing, by creating attractive and well connected places for recreation that are resilient and sustainable in line with Net Zero ambitions.
Funding Information
- The Healthy Islands Fund (HIF) is offering two grants under this opportunity:
- Capital costs up to £15,000
- Capital costs up to £100,000
- A maximum of up to £100,000 for capital costs can be applied for, either to fund a project in its entirety or, to contribute to a larger project. A maximum of up to £5,000 for revenue expenditure can also be applied for.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applications are invited from not-for-profit, grass-root, voluntary and community organisations, and public sector organisations including schools that are based on or working on Scottish islands within the local authority areas of:
- Argyll and Bute
- Highland
- Eilean Siar
- North Ayrshire
- Orkney Islands
- Shetland Islands
- You should be an incorporated organisation to apply and therefore you are likely to be either a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), Company Limited by Guarantee, Community Interest Company, Co-operative, Community Benefit Society or a local authority or statutory body (including schools).
- As part of the assessment of applications, the purpose of your group and how you are structured and governed will be reviewed.
- All groups [except for public agencies] must submit a constitution with their application. Project work that is being delivered in partnership will be considered however one organisation should apply to the Healthy Islands Fund as the lead partner responsible for any grants made.
Note if you are a registered charity this does not automatically mean you are an incorporated organisation so please check the legal form of your organisation before submitting an application.
