The Government of Canada in partnership with the Canadian Health Research (CIHR) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) offers new doctoral research training grants to help refugees settle and to facilitate their reintegration in the research. Fellows can undertake their training in one of the eligible Canadian research institutes under the supervision of a researcher.
In addition to supporting the process of settlement of refugees, the initiative will strengthen Canadian health research by creating new talent and new perspectives to the research community.
The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) supports research in developing countries to promote growth, reduce poverty and stimulate positive change on a large scale. It offer grants, funding and scholarships to researchers and institutions who are looking for solutions to global development challenges. They invest in the knowledge that will help:
- reducing poverty and inequality;
- promote employment and growth;
- help communities protect themselves from climate change impacts;
- promote good governance and sound policies;
- ensure a healthy future for mothers and children;
- put technology and innovation for growth.
Funding Information: Scholarships for Doctoral Research Award is $ 35,000 per year per grant for up to three years.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be refugees in Canada who have arrived since September 2014 (sponsored by the private sector by the government or from the Joint refugees referred by a visa office).
- Applicants must be enrolled in a research training program full time at one of the Canadian research institutes eligible at the beginning of the period for granting scholarships.
- Applicants must be supervised by a researcher to an eligible research institute.
- If it is possible to do so, applicants must submit official transcripts.
