Deadline: 15 March 2019
Institute for Journalism & Natural Resources (IJNR) is inviting proposals for grants to help defray the costs of reporting projects that focus on natural resources, the environment, energy, development, agriculture, environmental justice, and public health.
The purpose of these grants is to provide financial support for qualified, professional journalists, in order to allow them to report on important topics that they may not otherwise be able to cover.
Grant money may be spent on any costs incurred for normal reporting activities: travel, lodging, research, etc.
Type of Grants
- The Frank Allen Awards are intended to help defray the costs of reporting projects that focus on natural resources, the environment, energy, development, agriculture, environmental justice, and public health. Up to eight of these grants may be awarded.
- The Weegar Award is intended for a reporting project that resonates with one or more of Andrew’s passions: conservation, traditional agriculture, forestry and fisheries. The winning proposal will promise top-quality immersive storytelling and high-spirited adventures of all kinds.
- The Guerry Beam Award is intended for a reporting project focused on marine issues.
- The Environmental Justice Award is intended for reporting projects that aim to illuminate the environmental realities that impact marginalized people and underserved communities.
Funding Information
- IJNR will accept proposals for grants of up to $500 for the Frank Allen Field Reporting Awards, up to $750 for the Guerry Beam Award, and up to $1000 for both the Andrew Weegar Memorial Award and Environmental Justice Award.
Eligibility Criteria
- Journalists of color and other underrepresented or minority journalists are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Preference will be given to reporting projects in, about, or impacting North America.
