Beyond their current funding activities, the Kahane Foundation has committed CHF 4 Million to combat the impact of Covid-19 within its geographic regions of focus. The Kahane Foundation has set up a Covid-19 Relief Fund (CRF) to:
- Strengthen partners in combating the repercussions of the virus and support them in their Covid-19 response work;
- Strengthen civil society organizations that are doing an excellent job in addressing the needs of their communities.
Thematic Focus
Based on current events, funding in 2020 will focus on the themes of “Accessibility,” “Migration / Integration” and “Social Mobility.”
- Accessibility: Promoting and improving the emotional well-being, self-determination and inclusion of persons with disabilities through:
- Inclusive and innovative education;
- Access to quality health care.
- Migration / Integration: Fostering self-sufficiency, integration and well-being for migrants through:
- Inclusive and innovative education;
- Access to quality mental health care.
- Social Mobility: Offering a path to self-sufficiency to the weakest in society trough:
- Inclusive and innovative education;
- Access to quality health care.
Geographic Focus
Kahane Foundation currently has a focus on projects in the following regions:
- Europe: Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia (and Kosovo), Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom;
- The Middle East: Israel (and Palestinian Territories), Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen;
- North Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia;
- Turkey.
Exclusions
- The foundation does not consider applications from individuals or for projects in the fields of culture, art, nature and sports.
Procedure for New Projects
- All applicants for new projects are required to use the First-Step application form — the link to which can be found at the bottom of the page on their website during the application period.
- The First-Step application form is often evaluated immediately upon submission, and shortly afterwards applicants can expect a reply with either an invitation to fill the Second-Step application form or a decision to decline the project for funding.

Application
The application period for funding in 2021 is now underway. Important dates for applicants applying for funding in 2021. All information pertaining to their next application and funding period is subject to change due to global COVID-19 developments.
- October 30th, 2020 — Progress reports due (re. funding period 2020);
- November 13th, 2020 — Application period starts;
- December 4th, 2020 — Deadline for First-Step and Running applications;
- January 15th, 2021 — Deadline for Second-Step applications;
- Early April 2021 — Applicants can expect a final decision;
- Late May 2021 — Grantees can expect funds.
