The Louisiana Foundation is seeking applications for its Special Project Grants Program to support organizations that are looking to increase their community impact. They may focus on any number of issues affecting Louisiana’s health, education, or well-being.
The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation is committed to making ongoing investments in the work of partners who have made a demonstrated impact on the health and wellbeing of Louisianans. These grants will help their established partners further their important work on behalf of Louisianians in need.
Projects may focus on any number of issues that affect Louisiana’s health and wellbeing, including community health, education and child welfare. They give preference to projects pursuing innovative ideas, as well as projects that reach new and diverse communities.
The ideal Special Projects grant project is:
- Serving a clearly defined need within the community n Building on the success of a past grant project with the Blue Cross Foundation
- Properly staffed by an organization with capacity to complete the proposed project
- Designed to make an impact on Louisiana communities over the long term
- Planned to achieve specific and measurable outcomes, with thoughtful and objective evaluation built in
- Able to communicate the values and impact of their Foundation within the community served
Specifically, these grants are meant to help organizations:
- Complete an existing project previously funded by the Foundation; or
- Strategically expand current efforts or implement new efforts based on a clear evidence of need and solid data.
Focus Areas
- Healthy Eating: Programs that increase access to, knowledge about and use of healthy food and healthy eating
- Physical activity: Programs that increase access to, knowledge about and engagement with daily, natural physical activity. Incentive and reward-based programs (virtuous cycles)
- Community health: Community Level commitments to tackling health and quality of life issues
- Early childhood intervention: Early childhood interventions that help set children, particularly low-income and high-needs children, on a good path educationally, socially-emotionally, health-wise etc.
- School-based health: Having schools or educational institutions make improving health outcomes a top priority
- Family stability: Programs that support stronger families and family units, providing particularly for low-income kids stability and support
Funding Information
- The maximum amount awarded per grant will be $100,000.
- Length of time: Projects lasting up to one year.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for any Foundation Grant, your organization must:
- Be designated a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization by the IRS.
- The Foundation only gives to nonprofit organizations working for charitable, religious, scientific, literary and other organizations under Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3).
- Be registered and in good standing with the Louisiana Secretary of State.
- All organizations must be up-to-date on their filings with the Louisiana Secretary of State.
- Check your organization’s status via given website.
- Be domiciled in Louisiana
- The Foundation only makes gifts to organizations who are based in Louisiana and working for the welfare of Louisianians.
Ineligible
The Foundation does not make grants to the following under any circumstances:
- Programs or events outside of Louisiana
- Organizations that are not tax-exempt
- Political campaigns, candidates, parties or partisan activities
- Sectarian, denominational or religious organizations for support of theological functions
- Athletes or athletic teams
- Beauty pageants
- Direct funding of labor, fraternal or veterans’ organizations
- Students raising funds for travel to an out-of-state competition
- Parent-teacher organizations
- Organizations that are in direct competition with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana
