The United Way for Southeastern Michigan’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Non-profit Grant Program is now open to Oakland County non-profit organizations delivering mental/behavioral health services and associated support services with a goal of increasing the capacity of these organizations to meet this growing demand for services.
Through this fund, the Oakland County Executive and Board of Commissioners have made $ 10 million available to nonprofits in the mental and behavioral health sectors, serving residents of Oakland County through a competitive grant award process administered by United Way for Southeastern Michigan.
Priorities
Priorities include:
- Organizati ons that have a long-standing track record in Oakland County.
- Organizations that address critical mental and/or behavioral health needs in the community.
- Ensuring that the slate of awardees demonstrates adequate coverage of geographic area and service type.
Types of Funding
Funds are available for three types of awards and funding ranges:
- Operational Grant: Operational grants from $50,000 and to $100,000 may be awarded to nonprofit organizations that meet basic eligibility criteria and need funds to maintain or enhance mental and/or behavioral health services because of increased demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Expansion Grant: Expansion grants from $100,001 up to $250,000 may be awarded to nonprofit organizations that meet basic eligibility criteria and need funds to expand or implement new mental and/or behavioral health services because of increased demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Community Grant: Community grants of $250,001 and up to $500,000 may be awarded to nonprofit organizations that meet basic eligibility criteria and need funds to maintain or enhance mental and/or behavioral health services and/or implement new services because of increased demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To be considered, organizations applying for this award type must have an annual operating budget of at least $4 million, recorded in the most recently approved organizational budget. Organizations applying for this award type must also have a large service footprint that reaches clients throughout Oakland County and will be asked to provide plans to demonstrate the ability to deploy the larger amount of funds requested within the spending period ending Oct. 31, 2022.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following basic eligibility criteria:
- The applicant must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, in good standing with both the state of Michigan and the Internal Revenue Service.
- The applicant must be based in Oakland County or provide service to Oakland County residents. Services supported through this grant may only be offered to Oakland County residents.
- The applicant must be a provider of evidence-based mental and/or behavioral health services and those services, where applicable, must be delivered by professionals in good standing and licensed by the state of Michigan.
- Service types include but may not be limited to:
- Mental health treatment for adults and children, substance misuse treatment, other behavioral health services, hotlines or warm lines, crisis intervention and/or overdose prevention.
