The Mental Health Community Coalition ACT is inviting applications for the Mental Health Month Reimbursement Grants Program to help local ACT groups and organisations host a mental health-focused event during Mental Health Month.
The scope of Mental Health Month events is limited only by your imagination and enthusiasm!
These grants are for positive, encouraging, informative and supportive events around topics of mental health and wellbeing that align with the theme of Awareness, Belonging, and Connection.
Objectives
- Objectives of Mental Health Month:
- To raise community awareness and understanding of mental health
- To reduce the stigma and discrimination associated with mental health conditions
- To promote positive mental, physical, social and spiritual health and wellbeing in the community
- To encourage people to seek help and practice self-care
- To provide information about mental health and wellbeing and increase awareness of local services.
What are the grants for?
- The MHM Reimbursement Grant Program is for events that support the objectives of Mental Health Month. They should also relate to the theme of Mental Health Month ACT 2023: Awareness, Belonging, Connection. They aim to offer a diverse events program, catering to all sub-groups of the community.
- They must be inclusive for a range of people, including:
- lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex and asexual (LGBTQIA+) people
- Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander peoples
- people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds
- young people (including school and university-based activities)
- adults aged over 65 years
- children of parents affected by a mental illness
- people with a disability
- other isolated or at-risk groups.
Funding Information
- You can apply for any funding amount up to $5000 (GST inclusive). However, very few events will be given this high a level of funding.
What is Mental Health Month?
- Mental Health Month occurs each year in October and encompasses World Mental Health Day on 10 October.
- It is an annual event celebrated in over 100 countries to raise community awareness and understanding of mental health, reduce the stigma and discrimination associated with mental health conditions, and promote positive mental health and wellbeing.
- Mental Health Month ACT is coordinated by the Mental Health Community Coalition ACT (MHCC ACT) and runs from 1 to 31 October.
How can the grant be used?
- You can only apply for funds through the MHM Reimbursement Grant Program for costs associated with organising, promoting and running an event that falls outside your organisation’s core business.
- Reimbursement grant funds cannot be used for:
- internal wages, staff costs or any other payroll activities
- remunerating volunteers
- regular rent or other bills (such as phone, internet or electricity)
- purchasing goods or services from your organisation or another organisation that you or another Director of your organisation owns or has an interest in.
Eligibility Criteria
- Any community-based group or organisation, charity, school, university or faith-based group within or outside of the mental health sector can apply for a reimbursement grant.
- Government agencies and private sector businesses are ineligible to apply for a grant, but they still encourage you to host and register an event during Mental Health Month ACT.
