The Bega Valley Shire Council is accepting applications for Mumbulla Community Foundation grant to help improve the economic, environmental, social and cultural well being of people in the Bega Valley Shire.
The Mumbulla Foundation grants provide funding to charitable and not for profit organisations for projects that benefit people living in the Bega Valley Shire. Its primary objective is to help locally based groups who are providing and/or creating opportunities and services which may not be readily available in the Valley. They include those providing valuable services for the aged, disabled, youth, families, children and other people in need, as well as those involved in arts and cultural activities, organisations concerned with education, community learning and the region’s heritage and environment.
Mumbulla Foundation grants are targeted to address the priority needs identified in Council’s plans and in line with the goals of Mumbulla Foundation.
Funding Information
- This will make $122,000 available across the Bega Valley to support the Bega Valley Community in recovery from the Black Summer Bushfires and/or build resilience to any such future event.
- In 2022/23 annual grants are available for:
- Small projects up to $2,000
- Large projects between $2000 and $9,000
- A small number of larger projects up to $20,000.
Types of Projects
- The following types of projects may be considered for funding:
- Music, theatre, arts or cultural activities or events
- Local community festivals
- Workshops, seminars, forums
- Training, support for volunteers
- Community education, environmental, and health projects
- Community resource or information kits
- Local history projects
- Equipment or facilities purchase hire. Preference will be given to the purchase of equipment which may be used by a number of groups.
- Travel expenses other than those covered by the exclusion
- Simple surveys to evaluate the effectiveness of a group or activities.
Eligibility Criteria
- All applications are considered on merit and in line with the themes of the BVSC Community Strategic Plan and link to supporting the Bega Valley Community in recovery from the Black Summer Bushfires and building resilience to any such future event.
- Funding is aimed at value adding to the delivery of worthwhile projects. Grants are not provided for core operational purposes, for major capital works or to fund completed or ongoing projects.
- To be eligible for grant applicants must:
- Be incorporated, have an ABN, or be supported (auspiced) by an organisation that is incorporated and has an ABN
- Be not-for-profit
- Be located in the Bega Valley Shire with the exception of those located on the Shire boundaries which provide services to people living in, or with demonstrated cultural connections to, the Shire (e.g. Wallaga Lake)
- Be capable of running the project to completion and/or not be trading insolvently
- Be committed to providing significant in-kind contributions and/or voluntary hours
- Have already obtained Council approval for any project requiring such approval
- Provide a quote for all purchases (estimates for projects under $1,000, a least one quote for projects between $1,000 and $5,000, a detailed project budget and at least two quotes for major items for projects over $5,000).
- Have acquitted and met any conditions of previous grants
- Meet these Mumbulla Foundation Grant Guidelines as required
- In addition to the specific grant criteria listed, projects and initiatives must be related to the bushfire recovery process underway within local communities:
- Projects that focus on building community connectedness, particularly initiatives focused on and / or led by youth
- Place based events that benefit a community – particularly events run by youth
- Initiatives that enhance social connections and wellbeing of people experiencing isolation and other vulnerabilities post bushfires – including older, independent women
- Projects that support young people through education and leadership opportunities
- Initiatives that encourage volunteering
- Projects founded on social justice principles
- Initiatives that demonstrate collaboration and partnerships.
Ineligible
- Funding will NOT be considered for the following projects and/or organisations:
- Vehicles, equipment maintenance, or for the planning and design work required for such projects
- Major capital equipment
- On-going salaries for permanent or casual positions created to provide ongoing services
- Travel expenses which do not contribute directly to the delivery of the aims and objectives of the group during the period of the grant
- Completed projects
- Sporting bodies
- Animal welfare organisations
- Religious or political activities
- Commercial enterprises fundraising activities
- Research projects or any projects required for an educational course or degree
- Insurance premiums for public liability or other risks
- Projects already fully funded by a Local, State or Federal government agency
- For core operational purposes or to fund ongoing projects on an annual basis.
