The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad invites eligible organizations to submit proposals to implement a project to support and develop committed young environment champions through Ecology Action groups focused on activities in high schools in Baghdad.
The program implementer will create Eco Action Clubs or related organized extra curriculum groups at their schools. The implementer will also design the curriculum and the program. The Eco Action Clubs will be supporting student and faculty input in development of ecological activities.
The opportunity will support targeted activities of the Eco Action Clubs to amplify efforts to combat climate change. The programs will serve to promote environmental diplomacy by building champions in climate advocacy for youth as well as youth leadership skills to carry out their initiatives.
Program Objectives
- develop an eco-agenda and action plan to highlight and realize regional climate change solutions that engage the students.
- prepare and distribute educational materials for youth in the schools.
- teach the participants about environmental issues, local, regional, and global challenges, and best practices, and inspire them to care for the environment and become environmental stewards.
- maintain a thematic calendar and conduct workshops involving local and U.S. experts at the school venues and in the American spaces in Baghdad.
- create and carry out social media campaign, mainly Facebook and Instagram accounts.
- arrange a competitive micro grant application to support innovative Eco Action Club activities.
- facilitate the outing for Eco Action Clubs to environmentally important areas for the eco-champions with their teachers and families.
- develop, in partnership with the Eco Action Clubs, a climate change school activity curriculum focused on regional climate change solutions that will be shared with all participating schools.
- arrange for speaking roles by Embassy at the various Eco Action Clubs.
- organize a targeted Public Affairs strategic media campaign to maximize the public outreach impact of these programs including both traditional and social media, and potential Speakers.
- organize a selection process, school competition to identify six environmental champions in each participating school team toward the end of the program.
- In addition, the program implementer will:
- Foster relationships between U.S. institutions working in the environmental sector and Iraqi institutions.
- Facilitate EducationUSA sessions at the 6 high school to promote for Education opportunities in the United States.
- Provide quarterly reporting and budget updates on program activities to U.S. Embassy Baghdad’s Public Diplomacy Section.
- Serve as the primary point of contact and source of information for Iraqi institutions, and U.S. Embassy Baghdad.
- Manage all logistical elements of the program.
- Encourage volunteerism among high school students as a part of extra curriculum activities to participate in Eco Action Club program.
- Conduct two workshops with local experts, teachers for promotion of the sustainable concepts and activities (e.g., recycling, water conservation, solar energy, and air quality).
- Provide weekly lessons for the Eco Action Club members in environmental (climate change, deforestation, water consumption awareness).
- Plan activities such as plant a tree, Earth Day and Environment Day Events, field trips, seminars, visit to Al-Zawraa park.
- Design and launch logos, slogan, and social media and adhere to the branding and marking of the U.S. embassy requirements.

Participants and Audiences
- Highschool students in Baghdad area and teachers.
- Support of Equity and Underserved Communities:
- Proposals should clearly demonstrate how the program will support and advance equity and engage underserved communities in program administration, design, and implementation. Proposals should clearly demonstrate how classes would successfully accommodate and integrate learners with mobility impairments in all components of the Access program.
Eligibility Criteria
- The following organizations are eligible to apply:
- US and foreign Not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society/non-governmental organizations.
- Have demonstrated experience developing and administering similar programs.
- Have the capacity to operate in Iraq and have active partnerships with organization(s) operating in Iraq needed to support the program.
- All Federal assistance recipients must have a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) and a CCR (CAGE) number prior to funds disbursement.
