NOFO: Strengthening Nicaraguan Communities’ Capacity to Resist Drugs

The Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a project to reduce drug demand among Nicaraguan youth.

The project aims to raise awareness of the dangers of drug use, reduce stigmatization of prior drug users, and provide Nicaraguan youth with tools and knowledge to prevent and reduce drug abuse in their communities.

Priority Region/Countries: Nicaragua – Applicants should select one of the following regions to target in their proposal: Managua, Rivas, North Caribbean region, or South Caribbean region.

Participants and Audiences: The project’s primary audience should be youth (ages 12 to 26) at risk of drug use and youth who are using drugs. Studies show that drug use is highest among males. The project should also target other stakeholders (NGOs, community leaders, and youth leaders) in vulnerable communities, training them ineffective drug prevention strategies.
