NT Youth Week Grant Program – Australia

Applications are now open for the NT Youth Week (NTYW) Grant Program, an excellent opportunity for community groups, not-for-profit organisations, local businesses, community leaders and young people to collaborate and engage.

NT Youth Week (NTYW) aims to assist young Territorians to access a variety of youth initiated events and personal development programs during 6-17 April 2024. You can apply as a group, an organisation, or a business wanting to run free events or activity for young people across the Territory during this time.

It also encourages local participation and strengthens partnerships through events and activities for young Territorians aged 12-25 years. Although everyone from across the Territory is encouraged to get involved, there is a strong emphasis on supporting youth-led projects.

The Department of Territory Families, Housing and Communities’ Office of Youth Affairs provides policy advice across government, coordinates youth programs and administers grants for young Territorians aged 12 to 25 with the aims of:

• improving their personal wellbeing, promoting their positive achievements and assisting them to reach their goals;
• providing them with positive recreational and developmental opportunities and helping them to keep informed and actively involved in making things happen in their community; and
• developing effective communication links between young people, Government and the wider community.

The Office of Youth Affairs (OYA) administers the Youth Engagement Grants Program, which aims to provide financial support to young people, community groups and organisations providing a variety of drug and alcohol free recreational events, personal development and leadership programs for young Territorians.

Aims and Objectives

• Please note, all events and programs must be drug and alcohol free, and must meet the aims and objectives of NT Youth Week below:
  • Provide opportunities for young people aged 12 to 25 years to express their ideas and views, raise issues of concern to them and act on issues that affect their lives;
  • provide opportunities for the wider community to listen to young people and acknowledge and celebrate the positive contributions that young people make to their local communities;
  • promote a community focus on issues of concern to young people; and
  • ensure that programs are accessible for all young people, for example:
    • young people in regional and rural/remote NT;
    • young people with a disability;
    • young people at risk of homelessness;
    • indigenous young people;
    • cultural and linguistically diverse young people;
    • unemployed young people; and
    • young people in care.

Categories

• There are two categories of grants available:
  • Drug and Alcohol Free Entertainment: NT Youth Week Grants financially support applicants to provide young people opportunity to plan, organise and participate in a variety of drug and alcohol free programs. Example: A free movie night for young people.
  • Youth Development/Leadership: NT Youth Week Grants financially support applicants to provide young people access to personal and community development programs. Example: A career development workshop with experienced speakers and mentors.

What this grant can fund?

• Programs, projects, activities, workshops and events that encompass the following:
  • scheduled during NT Youth Week 2024 (6-17 April 2024);
  • innovative and secure entertainment concepts tailored for young people;
  • initiatives that promote skills development and desirable attributes, such as self-esteem, cooperation, and trust in young people;
  • designed with a youth-centric approach;
  • the active participation of young individuals in both the planning and delivery stages;
  • local community support and involvement;
  • organisations seeking to purchase capital equipment (up to $500);
  • financial support for wages and salaries of course providers (e.g., instructors, DJs, facilitators, up to $1,000).
    • Please note, this does not include wages or salary paid to your organisation’s staff during usual core business hours and must relate to the program or event.
• Exceptions may be considered regarding:
  • financial assistance for multiple applicants within the same organisation hosting events across the Northern Territory; or
  • financial assistance for applications beyond the grant round’s scope to meet local school holiday needs and requests.

What this grant can’t fund?

• They are unable to provide funding for programs, projects, activities, workshops and events that encompass the following:
• scheduled outside of NT Youth Week 2024 (6-17 April 2024);
• located outside of the Northern Territory (unless the program benefits young Territorians);
• events or programs where a facilitator does not hold a current Working with Children Check or an exemption authority;
• not catered to young people of 12 – 25 years;
• payment of membership, registration, or participation fees, including Visa application fees and travel insurance;
• commercial or business programs designed for financial profit;

Who can apply?

• incorporated community groups, schools and local government councils;
• non-government organisations;
• sole traders; and
• business and partnerships;
• Unincorporated groups are eligible to apply if they have an agreement with an incorporated organisation to administer the NT Youth Week Grant

Eligibility Criteria

• Acquitted – Previous grants awarded to you by this office must be fully acquitted.
• Documents required – Applicants must provide full details of proposed projects including a detailed budget breakdown, project plan and/or a program.
• Legal Entity – Organisations must be a legal entity under the Associations Incorporated Act.
• Ochre Card – Event or activity facilitators must hold a current Ochre Card or Exemption Authority.
• Public Liability – Grant recipients are required to upload their Public Liability Insurance policy, with a recognised insurance provider, to Grants NT.
• Youth Strategy – Grant applications must clearly detail which Youth Strategy outcomes the project, service or event will seek to support and how.
