The Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) is currently accepting applications from civil society organisations and women’s rights organisations from Moldova as part of the project Building Resilience in the Eastern Neighbourhood (BREN).
The aim of this call is to support civil society organisations (CSOs) and women’s rights organisations (WROs) to prioritise and protect progress on the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda in central and local governments in Moldova.
This call is a part of the wider BREN project and the applicants are required to participate in its national and regional experience-sharing and capacity building activities.
Themes
Below is a non-exhaustive list of thematic areas for potential projects:
- Supporting progress of the Women, Peace and Security framework in Moldova.
- Advocacy activities with central or local government, to prioritise the WPS agenda, including the development, monitoring and budgeting of the new Moldovan National Action Plan on UN Security Council Resolution 1325;
- Localisation of the National Action Plan on UN Security Council Resolution 1325. Activities in these areas should build on existing efforts in Moldova.
- Creating robust partnerships/connections/communication among non-state and state actors to advocate for women’s meaningful participation in peace, stability, and security processes.
- Foster regional cooperation and dialogue on women, peace and security in the Eastern Neighbourhood region.
- 2. Increasing inclusion of diverse groups in peace and security discussion and decision-making
- Raise awareness on WPS among women from both banks of the Nistru River, ethnic, religious or linguistic minorities, and LGBTQI+ communities;
- Build the capacity of women from both banks of the Nistru River, ethnic, linguistic or religious minorities, and LGBTQI+ communities to advocate for important issues with local government bodies;
- Provide informal education opportunities for girls on the issues of gender and WPS, in particular outside the capital and large cities.
Funding & Duration Information
- The advised budget range for the projects is between 20,000-50,000 GBP for small grants and up to 75,000 GBP for large grants.
- The proposed projects should be no longer than five months.
Activities
IWPR can fund activities that focus on:
- Production of materials: this can include research, production of educational, promotional or media content around the project issues;
- Advocacy: this can include advocacy activities targeted at government, local government, or community entities, such as educational and religious institutions. Activities involving the creation of networks for advocacy purposes are encouraged.
- Community work: activities focusing on increasing knowledge around WPS, especially in ethnic, religious and linguistic minority, LGBTQI+ communities. Such activities should aim to increase the participation of these communities in discussion and decision-making processes involving WPS issues.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applications are open to civil society and women’s rights organisations registered in Moldova. Interested applicants should aim to build on already existing efforts in Moldova around WPS issues and try to identify and fill gaps in these efforts.
- The BREN strongly encourage applications from:
- Organisations led by women and/or youth;
- Organisations led by ethnic and religious minorities and the LGBTQI+ community;
- Organisations working outside the capital, including those working in the Transnistrian region and the autonomous region of Gagauzia;
- Newly formed organisations;
- Organisations with specific experience in WPS.
- This call aims to facilitate partnerships and network development among organisations, therefore joint applications are encouraged, especially from the following combinations:
- Organisations based in and outside Chisinau;
- Organisations that have different areas of expertise;
- CSOs partnered with media organisations and/or outlets;
- Organisations on both banks of the Nistru River;
- Organisations led by majority (ethnic, religious, sexual orientation and gender identity) and minority (ethnic, religious, sexual orientation and gender identity) groups.
- The potential applicants should demonstrate:
- Respect for gender equality and diversity;
- Conflict and gender sensitivity;
- Ability to identify, analyse and mitigate risks;
- Transparency and accountability in project management, including management of finances;
- Willingness to learn and share experience with other grant recipients.
- A sustainability plan to continue the work started under the grant.
- Specific Requirements for Large Grant Applicants
- Large grant applicants (up to 75,000 GBP) must demonstrate they have successfully implemented a grant project of at least 50,000 GBP in the past three years. Applicants who do not demonstrate this requirement will be rejected.
- Large grant applicants must address their sustainability plan for the project, including identifying the multiplier effect of the project and funding sources for activities following the grant project.
