NordForsk Fund is pleased to launch a Call for Research Project Proposals: Welfare among Children and Young People in the Post-Pandemic Nordics which has an emphasis on education, wellbeing, mental health, and living conditions of children and young people.
Objectives
- The overall objective of the call is to support and accelerate cutting edge Nordic research with high potential for renewal and impact on the welfare among children and young people in the post-pandemic Nordics. The call has an emphasis on education, wellbeing, mental health, and living conditions of children and young people.
- The objective of the call is also to support research on the mitigation of the effects of the pandemic and the restrictions on the welfare of children and young people. Thus, the call seeks to:
- Improve our understanding of the welfare for children and young people and the consequences of the pandemic and the restrictions on education, wellbeing, mental health, and living conditions
- Address how to best reduce the negative effects and consequences of the pandemic and the restrictions for children and young people, through for example intervention studies
- Address how resilience among children and young people can be promoted, through for example health promotion and prevention studies
- Further knowledge into societal crisis preparedness, learning from the COVID-19 pandemic and building resilience at different levels of our societies with the purpose of supporting the welfare of children and young people.
- In addition to the objectives set out above, the call will strive to stimulate the following in the research that is funded:
- Interdisciplinarity, where relevant research questions are addressed by combining and integrating skills from multiple disciplines
- Cross-sectorial perspectives, where the research integrates perspectives from for example the social, health and education sectors
- Comparative research approaches, where the researchers take advantage of the opportunities that the different datasets, socioeconomic and political frameworks as well as the varying pandemic strategies in the Nordic countries give
- Engagement with societal stakeholders with the aim of creating societal impact of the research. Applicants should specifically describe how children and young people will be involved in the research and at what stages of the research project. Research in this programme is expected to provide knowledge for decision-makers, civil servants, and different relevant stakeholders in the social, health and education sectors in the Nordic countries.
- The call defines children and young people to cover the age up to 25 years, using the World Health Organisation’s definition of ‘Adolescents’ as individuals in the 10-19 years age group, ‘Youth‘ as the 15-24 years age group and ‘Young People’ as the age range 10-24 years.
- Research questions related to the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the clinical aspects of the COVID-19 disease per se are excluded from the programme, as well as research related to vaccine and pharmaceutical development.
Funding Information
Applicants are invited to apply for funding to establish a Nordic research project with a budget of maximum NOK 11 million and duration of 3-4 years. The intention is to provide funding for 7 research projects under this call.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for funding, the following conditions must be met:
- Proposals must be submitted electronically through NordForsk Application Portal by the call deadline.
- All proposals must be written in English and follow the structure set out in the application form available on the NordForsk Call and Application Portal.
- The research project must include partners from research performing organizations in at least three Nordic countries. Nordic countries are defined here as Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Åland Islands. The project partners form the Research consortium.
- The host institution (Project Owner) for the research project must be a research performing organisation based in one of the countries co-funding the call: Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden.
- The project leader must be a qualified researcher (PhD or equivalent) at the host institution.
- A researcher may only serve as project leader for one application under this call. However, research institutions may be affiliated with more than one application.
- Researchers and research groups must be based at a research performing organisation.
- The proposal must include a signed Letter of Commitment from each partner institution. Letters of Commitment must be signed by a person authorized to take on financial commitments on behalf of the institution for the entire duration of the project.
- Applications that do not fulfill the above eligibility criteria will not be processed and will be rejected.
- A research performing organisation is a legal entity which is a university, university college or a research institute, and is characterised by the following:
- A primary goal to independently conduct fundamental research and/or applied research and or research-based innovation where results are published.
- The entity may be private or public but must not pay out dividends from its activities.
- The entity must have significant production of academic, published research.
