Amkeni Wakenya invites interested and eligible non-state actors including NGOs, FBOs, Academic Institutions, CBOs to submit proposals for award of grants in a programme entitled “Promoting increased access to justice for the poor and marginalized special interest groups in Kenya”.

The European Union Delegation in Kenya provided financial assistance to Amkeni Wakenya project to support CSO activities in Kenya during the period 2017-2022 through the Programme for Legal Aid and Delivery in Kenya (PLEAD) focusing on promoting access to Legal Aid and assistance for the poor and marginalized in Kenya.

This Call for Proposals seeks to continue provide financial support to CSO projects that are focused on access to justice for special interest groups, implementing the Alternative Justice Systems Baseline Policy, utilizing innovations tostrengthen access to justice for the youth, PWD, and children in conflict with the law. The call seeks to support short-term advocacy interventions intersecting with ongoing work of PLEAD CSOs and state actors within the final year of PLEAD 1.

Objectives

The overall objective of this Call is “To increase access to legal aid and assistance for the poor and marginalized special interest groups in 12 counties within the framework of the Legal Aid Act 2016 and the AJS Baseline Policy”.

Geographic Scope

This Call targets non-state actors in the five (5) pilot urban centres for the national legal aid scheme and seven (7) rural (marginal) counties in Northern Kenya and the Coast. The five pilot NLAS centres are Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru and Eldoret while the seven rural (marginal) counties are Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Lamu, Tana River, Isiolo and Marsabit.
