The Media Institute of Montenegro invites proposals for projects aimed at strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations to contribute to the preservation and protection of media freedom and pluralism in the Western Balkans.
The call for project proposals is open to civil society organizations in Montenegro dealing with media programs, education, human rights, and gender equality. Priority will be given to projects in which there is a partnership with other civil society organizations.
This call is part of the regional project STRONG – Media without Hate and Disinformation, which is being implemented with the support of the European Union in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Northern Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Turkey.
Objectives
The objectives of the project are:
- To increase the capacity of media organizations of civil society (CSOs) and local organizations to deal with misinformation, propaganda, and hate speech and to promote media literacy and gender equality;
- Strengthening the reactions of CSOs and the media to disinformation and hate speech;
- Increasing the level of media literacy and resistance of citizens to hate speech, misinformation, and propaganda;
- Strengthening the awareness and engagement of key actors and decision-makers by teaching good practices to combat hate speech, misinformation, and propaganda.
Funding Information
- The total amount available under this call for proposals is € 36,000.
- The individual value of the grant must be between a minimum of 3,000 and a maximum of 9,000 euros. Co-financing of the project by the project applicant (or partner) is not mandatory.
- The duration of the project must be between 9 and 18 months.
Expected Results
- Local organizations and / or their partners trained to actively promote media literacy at the local level;
- Development of new tools/solutions/initiatives at the local level that will contribute to increasing the number of citizens in small towns / rural areas informed about problems relevant to their lives through the development of quality media products at the local level, as well as disinformation and hate speech;
- Increasing the number of young people engaged in civic activism at the local level;
- Encouraging networking of local organizations with each other and with related organizations in the region.
Eligibility Criteria
The call is open to CSOs in Montenegro. With this Call for Proposals, they especially encourage CSO partnership projects. The criteria for qualification of a project applicant and partner are as follows:
- Applicant (lead applicant) In order to be eligible, a CSO must meet the following conditions:
- has the status of a legal entity, established and registered in Montenegro, in accordance with national and local laws and regulations;
- actively acts in the field of media, education, human rights or gender equality, as evidenced by the founding act of the organization;
- has been active for at least one year (last 12 months before the deadline for submitting project proposals), as evidenced by the registration document.
