The Centers for Disease Control is seeking applications to enhance Global Health Security that Strengthens Public Health Surveillance Systems and Preparedness Globally.
This NOFO is intended to support global health security partners to develop or continue the implementation of surveillance activities that focus on protecting and improving public health globally through strategic planning, policy, strengthening surveillance capacities and systems through partnerships.
These should build and improve regional and country capacities to prevent, detect, respond, and control infectious disease, strengthen border health security and mitigate public health events of international concern (PHEICs) or other global health threats.
Activities under this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) will focus on protecting and improving public health globally by:
- strengthening public health surveillance systems;
- improving the public health surveillance workforce;
- improving the interface between public health disease surveillance and laboratory systems;
- reinforcing emergency surveillance preparedness;
- enhancing electronic disease surveillance platforms and systems; and
- enhancing the use of surveillance data for public health action.

- COMPONENT 2: Reinforcing emergency surveillance preparedness during small outbreak responses.
- COMPONENT 3: Reinforcing emergency surveillance preparedness during large outbreak responses.
- COMPONENT 4: Additional surveillance activities as identified by current or future appropriations or funding availability.
- COMPONENT 5: Reinforcing emergency surveillance preparedness related to emerging infectious disease threats.

- Shortened time to detect highly infectious disease outbreaks through active surveillance and case finding.

- Rapid identification and containment of highly infectious disease outbreaks.

- Reduced time to reinvigorated public health activities that have been interrupted or slowed due to outbreak response
- Improved access to health services by individuals in outbreak affected areas
- Increased capacity of countries for early warning, risk reduction and management of national and global health risks

- Sustained improvements in timeliness of achieving outbreak/epidemic/pandemic control
- Reduced morbidity and mortality attributed to disease outbreaks or other public health threats
