The U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section in New Delhi is soliciting proposals for a program entitled “Effective Communication Strategies to Prevent and Counter Violence Against Women”. The program would bring together American and Indian gender specialists to share best practices in creating awareness and preventing GBV, and how those communication strategies can be tailored to meet the needs of the local environment.
Gender-based violence (GBV) is a large-scale problem throughout India. In order to strengthen the efforts of policy makers, civil society actors and youth leaders in preventing and countering violence against women, the U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section proposes to fund a series of workshops to identify and share the latest innovative communication strategies in addressing GBV.
Funding Information
- Any grant requested under this Call for Proposals must fall between $100,000.00 to $125,000.00.
- Grant projects generally should be completed in one year or less.
Benefits
- Through this program, the grantee would organize 5 communication workshops/training sessions and speaking tours in 5 second-tier cities of India (one each in North India and the four Consular districts of Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata).
- The grantee would identify and bring two American gender specialists with expertise in harnessing the power of social media to address the challenges of GBV to lead the above workshops.
- The experts would train workshop participants in the use of new and effective communication strategies including social media best practices, targeted and innovative advertising, the use of cartoons and the latest counseling techniques to more effectively prevent and counter violence against women.
- Each of the 5 workshops would also have one presenter from South Asia – Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh or Nepal – to share their expertise with the workshop participants.
- The workshops in each city could be supplemented with film screenings and incorporating gender specialists from various USG programs, including Fulbright.
- During the two day speaking tour component, the American gender specialists would have an opportunity to conduct consultations with policy makers and civil society organizations, visit and lead sessions at educational institutions, hold meetings with state government policy makers and participate in media interviews.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligibility is open to all non-profit, non-governmental organizations.
- Individuals are not eligible for an award.
- Organizations may sub-contract with other entities, but only one, non-profit, non-governmental entity can be the prime recipient of the award. When sub-contracting with other entities, the responsibilities of each entity must be clearly defined in the proposal.
- Cost sharing or Matching is not required for this funding opportunity.
- This award does not allow for construction activities or costs.
- The U.S. Embassy New Delhi grants/cooperative agreements cannot be used to fund religious or partisan political activity; fundraising campaigns; commercial projects; scientific research; projects whose primary aim is the institutional development of the organization, or illegal activities.
- Applicants must acquire all required registrations and rights in the United States and India. All intellectual property considerations and rights must be fully met in the United States and India.
