Sonke Gender Justice is accepting proposals to promote gender equality, prevent violence, advance children’s rights, and reduce the spread and impact of HIV and AIDS in South Africa.
Sonke Gender Justice is a womxn’s rights organisation that is committed to feminist principles, using a rights-based and gender-transformative approach to achieve human rights and gender justice. They are widely recognized for the impact of their work, including their expertise in engaging men and boys for gender equality, and experience in institutional capacity strengthening.
Sonke will sub-grant to two organisations in the Northern Cape to implement activities that respond to GBVF and the spread of HIV and AIDS. This will be accomplished through the implementation of various strategies including Capacity strengthening on GBVF, Human Rights and HIV and Aids; Engaging in advocacy initiatives for the effective implementation of laws and policies addressing HIV & AIDS and GBVF, and protection of human rights leading to increased demand for GBV and HIV & AIDS services.
Funding Information
- Up to a maximum of ZAR200,000 per funding year, per applicant. A total of two sub-grants will be made available, renewable annually over a two-year period (total of R400,000 per applicant).

- Northern Cape province: Platfontein Frances Baard District, Sol Plaatjie Municipality
Eligibility Criteria
- Only CSOs, working in the area of GBVF in Northern Cape, Platfontein and surrounding areas are eligible to apply.
- All interested applicants must meet the following minimum criteria to be short-listed as potential sub-grantees:
- Locally registered and operating within the stated Areas.
- Have been operational for a minimum of 3 years and have done either a project or institutional clean audit.
- Must have received and adequately handled donor funding of more than R150 000.00 per annum in the past.
- Have prepared narrative and financial reports to a donor which must be attached to this application as supporting document.
- Demonstrate basic organisational and financial systems being in place.
Ineligible
- Any CBOs that are not focusing on GBVF and HIV/AIDS and are not operating in the focus areas will not be considered.
