Save the Children is pleased to announce the Call for Expressions of Interest for the Sida Funded programme – Driving Sustainable change for Child Rights in Zambia for local vibrant, experienced and effective Civil Society Organizations, Community Based/Faith Based Organizations to implement child focused programmes in the mentioned districts for this programme with potential to, implement creative and effective programs.
These should be in multi-faceted child focused interventions anchored on child rights governance themes that would contribute to enhancing the promotion and fulfilments of children’s rights agenda in the targeted provinces and districts.
The project will be implemented for a period of three years (2020-2023). The project is aimed at ensuring that Zambia has adequate space for girls and boys, women and men to participate and influence in national planning and implementation processes through community-based social accountability, public investment in children’s rights and holding government accountable for children’s rights.
Save the Children has secured funding from the Swedish Embassy for the implementation of Driving Sustainable Change for Children Rights (DSCCR) Project in seven provinces in Zambia. These are Lusaka (Lusaka urban and rural, Kafue, Rufunsa); Copperbelt (Lufwanyama, Masaiti, Ndola); Southern (Choma, Gwembe Livingstone); Western (Kalabo, Mongu, Sioma, Shangombo); Eastern (Chipata, Katete, Chadiza); Luapula (Mansa, Nchelenge) and Northern (Kasama, Mbala).
Thematic Priorities
SC will fund applications in the areas which address identified needs of the target areas anchored on the Child Rights Governance (CRG) theme addressing one or more of the 3 objectives listed below:
- Objective 1
- CSOs, children and communities influence budgeting processes for improved spending on children.
- Objective 2
- Children in the targeted districts benefit from improved quality service delivery in education, health and nutrition, child protection and social protection.
- Objective 3
- Children benefit from improved legal and policy frameworks that align and meet regional and international child rights instruments and mechanisms.
Areas
The EoIs should demonstrate that the organizations making the submission has the ability to address priority child rights issues in the areas of:
- Public Investment in Children – Focusing plans and budget policy influencing, research and analysis, monitoring and advocacy research and documentation, monitoring the implementation, influencing government’s resource mobilization, allocation and expenditure as well as promoting participation, transparency and accountability, empowering children and communities participation in planning and budgeting processes.
- Child Centered Social Accountability – To improve quality, availability, accessibility and user-friendliness of services for children in education, health, nutrition, child protection and social protection, capacity building to enable children and their communities exercise civic and political rights in order to improve transparency, accountability & participation for children’s rights, and strengthening child centred social accountability skills among children and their communities.
- Child Rights Reporting – Strengthening coordination for child rights, advocacy for legislative, policy and practice change in the child sector in line with international and regional human rights standards (United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child and other relevant instruments), supporting the establishment of a children’s movement that reports on the promotion and protection of Child Rights in Zambia. Private sector engagement for the promotion of children’s rights (Child Rights and Business Principles).
Funding Information
- Save the Children may make multiple awards in the range of ZMW 250,000 – ZMW1, 000,000 per project per year.
- The average duration of the proposed project should be between 1 year up to 3 years, with all project activities to be completed by December 2022.
Eligibility Criteria
- Local Civil Society /Community, Faith based organization with a geophysical presence in DSCCR target districts or province to support this the call, especially those that are well grounded and connected with local communities, and with vast experience in community engagement on governance and civic issues will be highly preferred.
- Must be duly registered with clear institutional governance systems.
- At least three referees for work of similar nature.
- Please note that infrastructure projects will not be considered under this call.
- SC is looking to fund innovative projects which deliver measurable core outcomes for the improvement of children and communities wellbeing.
Application Conditions
- Save the Children may make multiple awards in the range of ZMW 250,000 – ZMW1, 000,000 per project per year. Larger projects may be considered on an exceptional basis. The average duration of the proposed project should be between 1 year up to 3 years, with all project activities to be completed by December 2022.
- Deadline for submission of the expressions of interest is Tuesday 1st December, 2020 at midnight local time. Expressions of interests submitted after the stated closing time and date will not be accepted. Complete the project application and budget forms with necessary details about project activities and spending. Note that only complete applications will be considered.
- All EOI must be completed using the Save the Children Concept Note template and with a proposed budget for 2021 (see attached template should be completed). All EOI must be in English and submitted electronically via email to the address given on the website.
