The Secretary’s Office of Global Partnerships (S/GP) is seeking applications from eligible organisations for a program entitled “Women in Science (WiSci) Girls STEAM Camp 2017” which is a public-private partnership and is designed to encourage adolescent girls to pursue further education and potential careers in the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Design and Mathematics) fields.
WiSci is designed to empower young women with the knowledge and skills to be competitive during a time of rapid, technological development, providing them with access to high-tech resources, like-minded peers, impactful industry connections and inspiring mentors.
The purpose of the camp 2017 is to address the gender imbalance that exists with regard to women’s presence in the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Objectives
- Empower adolescent girls from Sub-Saharan Africa
- Equip adolescent girls with skills and knowledge to succeed in STEAM fields
- Promote cross-cultural communication and understanding
- Empower adolescent girls to prevent and respond to issues related to gender-based violence
- Create lasting relationships among participants with the business community.
Funding Information
- S/GP plans to fund this program incrementally with an initial award of $200,000 followed by a cost amendment to the award to add an additional $100,000 in FY 2016, pending availability of funds.
- A cooperative agreement will be awarded for a period of 12 months.
Eligibility Criteria
Applications may be submitted by U.S. public and private non-profit organizations meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 USC 501(c)(3).
