The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) is seeking applications for its advanced international training program (ITP) on “Climate Change – Mitigation and Adaptation” in West Africa.
This international advanced training program is particularly aimed at candidates who united to take part in the reform process of strategic importance at different levels and which occupy key positions enabling them to steer change processes in their organizations. This program therefore offers an opportunity to strengthen, adapt and maintain capacities your organization certainly needs to define and achieve its goals in the short and the long term.
The overall objective of this training program is to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change on resources of vulnerable people living in the extreme poverty, strengthening knowledge and institutions as well as capacity building related to change in the beneficiary countries. This initiative aims to support the change process in key organizations working with community planning.
Expected Results
The short and long term results expected from participants and their organizations at the end of this program International training are:
- Improved level of knowledge and ability to awareness of climate change and its consequences negative consequences both at regional and local level, in particular with particular emphasis on the most sensitive sectors that are water resource management and agriculture.
- Improve the level of knowledge on techniques of use of climate data and season forecasts-ners in strategic planning or any other plan of action in the context of a green economy.
- Improve the level of knowledge on methods identification of the most vulnerable sectors of society in order to develop suitable action plans.
- Awareness of gender issues and their integrationtion in the policy-making and decision-making processes decision making is significantly improved.
- Improvement of the level of skills considered asessential ingredients to stimulate and implements real organizational change.
- The work project has started a process of strengthening-capacity and organizational change.
- The level of networking as well on the scale of participant that his organization is significantly improved.
Program Content
The international training program strongly emphasizes on water resource management as well as planning and reporting on weather. The following modules will be covered:
- Climate data;
- Impact of climate change on water resources;
- Impacts of climate change on Agriculture and forestry;
- Other impacts of climate change
- Risk and vulnerability analysis to change climatic;
- Regulations, conventions and negotiations conferences on climate change;
- Green funding mechanisms;
- Good climate governance;
- Climate communication;
- Work project.
Program Phases
- Phase-1: Preparation (part-time, in the country Original)
- Phase-2: Seminar to launch training in West Africa (1.5 weeks)
- Phase-3: Advanced training in Sweden (2.5 weeks)
- Phase-4: Development of the work project (PT)for 6–8 months, part-time, with in the original organization
- Phase-5: Regional closing seminar in Africa from West (1 week)
Invited Countries
Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.
Target Groups
- Only candidates nominated by the appropriate organization and in compliance with the rules and laws in force in the target countries will be selected. The program is mainly intended to people who hold key positions in organizations the areas of intervention are related to the community planning at national, regional or even local, and who are actively involved in taking of strategic decisions.
- Applicants representing government organization stales, private companies or NGOs at national level,regional or local are encouraged to apply.
- The candidates must have a university degree or have knowledge equivalent to at least five years of experience professional. To promote a good balance men /women, qualified female candidates are particular-strongly encouraged.
- Applicants having previously participated in a training program funded by Sida only will not be retained.
