The U.S. Embassy Zagreb Public Diplomacy Section (PDS) is pleased to announce that funding is available through the PDS Small Grants Program.
Priority Areas
PDS Zagreb invites proposals for programs in the following areas:
- Entrepreneurship/Economic Prosperity
- Projects that prepare small- and medium-sized enterprises to expand to the global market.
- Anti-corruption educational programs and initiatives that contribute to government accountability, business transparency, and improving Croatia’s investment climate.
- Entrepreneurship programs for underrepresented audiences including women, minorities, and residents of small cities and rural areas.
- Programs supporting women’s rise to senior leadership positions in government, business management, civil society, academia, and other sectors.
- Programs that deepen ties between U.S. and Croatian professional tech organizations and institutions, preferably with the virtual or in-person participation of U.S. experts on topics such as artificial intelligence, financial technology, and cybersecurity.
- Gaming/Esports
- Projects that promote career opportunities in esports and gaming, including through tournaments, festivals, workshops, lectures, conferences, and related activities to improve conditions for amateur and professional gamers, including those from underrepresented groups.
- Activities that highlight game development as a growing industry, such as hackathons, game jams, and professional development activities for programmers. Engaging U.S. experts in virtual or in-person programs is recommended.
- Climate Action
- Innovative programs that engage American and Croatian experts in climate action, including raising climate awareness, elevating environmental justice, and promoting the green economy and eco-friendly entrepreneurial initiatives such as sustainable development, sustainable finance, renewable energy, and eco-tourism.
- Human Rights and Democracy
- Programs for teachers and/or students that strengthen Croatia’s Holocaust education curriculum by incorporating new resources, introducing new classroom strategies, and developing engaging activities and workshops that combat antisemitism and promote tolerance.
- Programs that improve Holocaust education in Croatia by increasing the capacity of key institutions and organizations to deepen understanding of the past and legacy issues. Projects that engage U.S. experts for joint activities are preferred.
- Projects that engage underrepresented audiences, celebrate diversity, and increase societal inclusion of underrepresented groups.
- Culture
- Artistic programs that share the richness and diversity of American values and support cultural dialogue between American and Croatians. Programs can include cultural performances, guest speakers/directors/performers, the rights to American works, exhibits, workshops, and art exchanges. An educational program component, such as workshops or master classes conducted by one or more visiting U.S. artists, is required.
- Media and Digital Communication
- Media-related projects that address one or more of the following themes: media freedom, media literacy, countering disinformation and fake news, and support for professional development in investigative journalism.
- Digital communication-related projects that address one or more of the following themes: digital entrepreneurship, digital and media innovation, and the use of artificial intelligence in communications.
Funding Information
- This notice is subject to the availability of funding;
- Total expected available funding: $150,000;
- Expected grant amounts: $10,000 – $25,000;
- The Embassy reserves the right to offer partial funding for any project;
- Grants must be used to fund activities that take place in Croatia or in the region, if the project has a regional component;
- Budgets must be submitted in U.S. dollars. The committee will not review projects with budgets written in Croatian Kuna or other currencies;
- Cost-sharing, which refers to contributions from the organization or other entities other than the U.S. Embassy, and which includes in-kind contributions such as volunteers’ time and donated venues, is encouraged.
Eligibility Criteria
- Grants are awarded to Croatian non-profit organizations and institutions including educational institutions;
- Applicants are only allowed to submit one proposal per organization;
- Organizations with active grants are not eligible to apply.
