The Basel & Stockholm Conventions Regional Centre has announced a Small Grant Program (SGP) on Plastic Waste to improve the management of plastic waste in partner countries and thus contribute towards preventing and significantly reducing marine pollution.

The SGP on Plastic Waste seeks to identify and implement low-cost high impact pilot projects on the ground, Funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad), these projects are implemented by Basel Convention regional and coordinating centers and Stockholm Convention regional and sub regional centers.

Scope of Projects

Selected projects will seek to enhance capacities in partner countries to implement and enforce the Basel Convention and manage plastic waste in an environmentally sound manner. The projects may implement a range of activities to address plastic waste at municipal, national and regional levels, for example to adjust the legal frameworks; develop a national inventory; undertake trainings of custom authorities; implement financing, collection and recycling schemes; pilot testing best practices in relevant sectors; take action to eliminate hazardous constituents; develop a regional strategy; etc.
