The Leeds Community Foundation is seeking applications for its Harnessing the Power of Communities (HPoC) Small Grants programme to support organisation and project which will improve the health and wellbeing of people in communities identified as the most deprived in Leeds, building on local assets to address locally identified needs.
This small grants programme is part of the wider West Yorkshire & Harrogate Health & Care Partnership Harnessing the Power of Communities programme which, through both inclusion and investment, aims to develop, strengthen and sustain Third Sector community activity in Leeds that-
- Demonstrates health outcomes and build the capacity of the third sector as an integral part of the health and care system;
- To establish a new relationship with communities built around good work on the co-production of services and care in order to support people to greater self-care,
- Prevent ill-health, and
- The implementation of the Five Year Forward View and NHS Long Term Plan ambitions to join-up community services.
Funding Information
- The minimum request is £500.
- The maximum is £10,000 for a two year project (up to £5,000 a year).
- Whilst the grant can be used to part-fund a wide range of activities.
- Accordingly, the foundation prefers for their grant to equal at least 50% of the total cost of the activity or project within the criteria specified by them.
- Partnership applications would be encouraged but only one application per organisation can be considered.
What can the Fund support?
This programme is looking to fund projects that:
- Focuses on prevention, wellbeing and supporting people to be connected to their communities, as well as addressing health inequalities and emerging needs from the Covid pandemic
- Put people and communities at the heart of approaches with co-produced local solutions
- Delivering strengths-based, asset-based, person-centred approaches to health and care
- Empowering and amplifying the least heard voices and working with and in communities where connections with the health and care system are the least developed
- Align with the Leeds System Health and Care
- Include evaluation in order to demonstrate health and wellbeing outcomes.
Eligibility Criteria
- Community groups, charities, social enterprises or other charitable organisations from the third sector that:
- Have a constitution or other relevant governance document
- Have a management committee/board of directors/trustees of at least three unrelated people
- Have a bank account under the name of the group with at least two unrelated signatories
- Are based in or supporting people living in the Leeds Metropolitan District Area
- Preference would continue to be given to small organisations based in Leeds with an income of less than £100,000 per year (in year 2019 or 2020) and unincorporated groups and also to support ABCD and mutual aid groups set up during Covid-19. However, organisations with an income over £100,000 and whose proposal is clearly supporting other organisations to deliver interventions or build capacity for delivering and evaluating health and wellbeing outcomes in communities will be considered.
- In line with Charity Commission guidance and Leeds Community Foundation’s Grant Making Policy, only unincorporated groups with less than £10,000 annual income would be eligible to apply for a maximum of £5,000, and also where any grant awarded would not take their current year’s income above £10,000.
- Priority would be given to emerging groups or those with a shorter track record.
