The Caribbean Vulnerable Communities (CVC) has announced a Call for Proposals to develop a “Know Your Rights” campaign that empowers vulnerable and key populations to access justice for human rights violations and promote an enabling law, rights and policy environment for their access to health-care, justice and other essential social services.
Under this call, your proposed project must contribute to the achievement of the following outcome:
- Increased enjoyment of health-related human rights by the most marginalized and vulnerable rights-holders.
Funding Information
- Each organization may apply for an award of a maximum of US$5,000 to support project-related costs for a maximum of Nine (9) months.
- Allocation for salaries, stipends, incentives and overheads should not exceed 40% of the total budget for the grant.
Activities
Addressing gender-based violence against women and girls is a priority of this Call for Proposals, as it is acknowledged that Gender equality is central to safeguarding human rights, upholding democracy and preserving the rule of law.
Campaigns may include any or all of the following:
- Actions to support community mobilization and education re policy and law reform.
- Social media communication campaigns i.e. development of e-posters, short films, videos, interview clips for placement on main social media platforms focussing on legal and policy reform and how to take action.
- Peer outreach and education services for key population groups such as women and girls, LGBT, PLHIV, Sex Workers, People who use drugs, Migrants and Inmates on their rights and how to take action on HR.
- Sensitization sessions with duty-bearers e.g. police officers, healthcare workers, other government workers in the justice sector, and parliamentarians to foster mutual understanding and respect for rights.
- Development of IEC materials including the development of policy briefs and media kits on legal and policy reform to be used in advocacy efforts.
- Working with the media to raise awareness of KP rights and to reduce discrimination and violence i.e. newspaper articles and radio and TV interviews on the policy or legal issues and reform.
Target Audience
- The target audiences for the “know your rights” campaign should be vulnerable and key populations: Women and Girls who experience gender-based violence, People Living with HIV, Men who Have Sex with Men, Sex Workers, People Who Use Drugs, Transgender Persons, Marginalized Youth, Migrants and Inmates.
Eligibility Criteria
Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Belize, Guyana, Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago with a record of tackling human rights issues especially around GBV and HIV/AIDS.
NB: Successful applicant are recommended to become members of the Shared Incident Database if they aren’t already members.
