Geographic Focus
Expected Results
- Objective: To improve the quality and coverage of health and nutrition services included in the set of effective interventions within the framework of the Integrated Health Service Networks Model. The intervention focuses on the municipalities of Cobán and Panzós (Alta Verapaz), and Santa Lucía La Reforma and Momostenango (Totonicapán).
- Effective Interventions:
- Pregnancy identification during the first trimester and timely prenatal care in the first trimester, including key screenings (hemoglobin, syphilis, HIV, and urinalysis).
- Infant growth monitoring, ensuring 12 check-ups and counseling.
- Complete and timely vaccination of children under one year of age, with emphasis on rotavirus and pneumococcus.
- Expected Results:
- R1: Primary and secondary health care facilities implement continuous quality improvement cycles for the set of effective maternal and child health and nutrition interventions, and strengthen staff capacity.
- Activities
- Technical assistance to identify gaps in resources, processes, and capacities for implementing the set of effective interventions at these levels.
- Acquisition and provision of essential equipment to cover identified gaps, including, but not limited to: Growth monitoring: scales for children and adults, height gauges, infant gauges, HemoCue, lancets, microcuvettes, record booklets, SIGSA forms, vaccination cards, CMB tapes, posters and growth charts, counseling materials. Prenatal monitoring: measuring tapes for pregnant women, gestometers, sphygmomanometers, thermometers, stethoscopes, pregnancy cards, and counseling materials.
- Technical assistance for the implementation of continuous quality improvement cycles aimed at compliance with Comprehensive Health Care Standards
- Support for strengthening the Care Model, including population count updates and community mapping with nominal identification of at-risk populations (pregnant women, children under two years of age).
- Training of health personnel in specific interventions for pregnant women and children under two years of age.
