The First Peoples’ Cultural Council (FPCC) is inviting applications for the Individual Artist Program to help artists to improve their skills and knowledge, pursue new approaches, exhibit or perform and gain recognition from their peers.
The Individual Artist Program is for Indigenous artists and art professionals residing in B.C. Artists should have a demonstrated commitment to their artistic practice in any artistic discipline – visual, music, dance, theatre, literary or media and including the contemporary practice of traditionally-based forms.
The Individual Artists program assists artists to:
- Increase their skills and knowledge through mentorship and training
- pursue new approaches or techniques in their practice
- gain the recognition of their peers (artists who work in the same artistic tradition)
- develop a history of public presentation (not necessarily in publicly funded venues) and/or
- devote more time to their artistic practice.
Funding Information
Grants to individual artists are available up to $10,000.00
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must:
- have previous experience that demonstrates a commitment to their artistic practice
- demonstrate the support of recognized Indigenous artists, cultural, or community leaders
- not be a full-time student
- submit only one application per deadline to the Individual Artist program
- not have the same project funded through the BCAC programs
- not be requesting funding for an applied art.
- Projects must:
- have a clear artistic objective
- provide creative or professional development opportunities for Indigenous artists
- provide an opportunity for the artist to move forward in their practice
- present a realistic and balanced budget, which clearly demonstrates financial need and if applicable identifies other sources of revenue required to complete the project
- indicate an achievable project timeline
- have a start date after the application deadline.
