Organisations working with young people outside the formal education sector can apply to the youth strand of Erasmus+.
Funds are given to support activity called learning mobility which is a planned learning activity in another country.
Erasmus+ is open to organisations across all sectors of education, training, youth and sport. Any public, private or not-for-profit organisation actively involved in these areas may apply for funding.
The overall programme objectives are to:
- boost skills and employability;
- modernize education, training and youth work; and
- focus on young people.
What activities are possible?
There are two types of learning mobility activities for youth: youth exchanges and training/networking for youth workers. Different activities can be combined into a mobility project, with a UK organisation or group working in partnership with one or more organisations from the Erasmus+ participating countries.
- Youth exchanges: Youth exchanges allow groups of young people (aged 13 to 30) from different countries to meet and live together for up to 21 days. During a youth exchange, participants work together on a chosen topic through a mix of workshops, exercises, debates, role-plays, simulations, outdoor activities etc. designed and prepared by them before the exchange.
- Training and networking for youth workers: This activity supports the professional development of youth workers. They can take part in seminars, training courses, networking events, study visits, and job shadowing/observation. A youth worker mobility can last from two days to two months.
Eligibility Criteria
UK organisations active in the youth field can participate in a youth mobility project. Informal groups of young people are also eligible to apply for funding.
The following organisation types are eligible to apply for Key Action 1 Erasmus+ youth funding:
- public bodies at local, regional and national levels
- non-profit organisations
- NGOs (including a European Youth NGO)
- Associations and Social Enterprises (as long as these are registered with the Charity Commission)
- an Association of Regions
- a European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation
- a profit-making body active in Corporate Social Responsibility
- informal groups of young people (aged 13-30):
- These are groups of at least four young people, which do not have a legal personality under the applicable national law, provided that their representatives have the capacity to undertake legal obligations on their behalf.
- The legal representative must be at least 18 years old at the time of application deadline and cannot be older than 30. However, in exceptional cases and if all other members of the group are minors, then there is no upper age limit for the legal representative. This would allow a group of young people (where all are minors) to submit an application with the help of a youth worker/coach.
- These groups of young people can be applicants and partners in some Actions of Erasmus+.
